State Chambers and Solo Music Contests Recap from the Band Director
 
Congratulations to ALL of our amazing chamber groups who performed at State on Friday, April 29th at MHCC.
We had three groups receive trophies and two more in the top 5.
  • State Champions - Small Percussion Ensemble Category: Aidan Bagby & Hayleigh Roth
  • 2nd Place - Small Woodwind Ensemble Category: Saxophone Quartet (Auden Koeneke, Aidan Schauer, Rae Kertzner, Rena Marthaler)
  • 3rd Place - Large Brass Ensemble Category - Brass Quintet (Maia Connelly, August Shin, Miles Wheeler, Liem Friel, Gavin Downs)
  • 4th Place - Small Percussion Ensemble Category - Anwar Laraway & Jesse Broderick
  • 5th Place - Large Woodwind Ensemble Category - Woodwind Quintet #1 (Maya Hausman, Alice Bokman, Ben McHarris, Ariah Piper, Jordan Livermore)
ALSO a HUGE thank you to the amazing Cleveland Band Parents that helped me run a VERY smooth contest. Another reason I am so blessed to work at Cleveland HS!!
 
 
An amazing experience for all of our state qualifying soloists!!
 
Three Cleveland students medaled on Saturday:
  • Anna Suydam - Bass Clarinet (2nd Place)
  • Henry Parker - Trombone (4th Place)
  • Liem Friel - Trombone (5th Place)
The following students were in the top 8:
  • Rena Marthaler - Tenor Sax (6th Place)
  • Maia Connelly - Trumpet (7th Place)
  • Ben McHarris - Clarinet (7th Place)
  • Lena Thomas - Bassoon (7th Place)
  • Ariah Piper - Bassoon (8th Place)

Color Guard Practices Begin This Week

Color Guard practices will begin this Thursday, May 5th from 3:45 - 5:15pm.  I am very excited for our crew to meet Tracy Buldoc, our new color guard coach!
Jazz Lab Performance

The Jazz Lab will be performing at the Mt Hood Jazz Festival at MHCC on Saturday, May 7th. The permission slip and itinerary can be found HERE.  Just scroll down until you find it. 

This is the first 2nd jazz band from Cleveland to perform at a jazz festival since its inception in 2017. Very proud of the hard work occurring in this ensemble!!
