Tuk-ish BIRTHDAY PARTY🎂

May used to be a busy holiday month in Cambodia, with 6 public holidays. We're not sure why, but they realized that Cambodia has far too many holidays (26 days in a year!), and as a result, they lowered the number of holidays for May from 6 to 4 days, resulting in only 21 public holidays in a year.
Plus, they are no longer allocating Sunday public holidays to Monday, therefore, with the majority of May holidays happening on weekends this year, there is only one public holiday left: Royal Plowing Day...
Nonetheless, as compared to other countries, Cambodia is still a country with a lot of public holidays so no complaints! (We believe... 😆)

The photo above was taken at Leakhena's birthday party in April. Personal birthdays have just lately been honored in Cambodia, and some of TukTuk staff had never celebrated their own. So nowadays, a TukTuk-style birthday celebration includes a surprise birthday cake as well as décor reflecting the staff member's favorite items, such as singers or actors. On this day, Leakhena was surrounded by her favorite celebrities for a tearful pre-birthday celebration.✨

NEW STAFF DEBUT!

Chhingchhing, who has been assisting us on a part-time basis and was highlighted in last month's Tukstaff Spotlight, has joined TukTuk as a full-time member since after Khmer New Year in April!

She will be using her illustration skills to develop more worksheets and other educational resources for us. We are always amazed by how quickly she develops prototypes of worksheets we need. 😦

There will be more and more additional resources done by Chhingchhing, so please keep a lookout for them!!

THE SECOND MOBILE LIBRARY IN 2022🤖

Through the Mobile Library Project, we have been lending toys and storybooks to the target preschools on a regular basis. This time, we visited the schools to trade one school's resources with those of another. When our tuk-tuk arrived, several of the students jumped up and down and raised their hands in joy. Some of the kids were watching us with eager anticipation as we entered the classroom and set up the new toys. 🥰

TukTuk seems to be growing in popularity among the kids in schools that participated in the Mobile Library Project this year. We hope that they will have a lot of fun with these resources throughout this period!

KHMER OF THE MONTH

Khmer Word: Krousah
Every year on May 15th, the United Nations International Day of Families is honored. For your constant support of TukTuk, we think of you as "TukTuk Krousah," which comes from the term "Krousah," meaning "Family."

It is only through the support of our "TukTuk Krousah" that we are able to carry out the work that we do. Thank you very much for all of your help and support!

THE 2ND WORKSHOP IS COMING SOON 💪

The second workshop is set to take place on May 26th, 2022. We've been working diligently to be ready for it since the previous month. We will be presenting the teachers TukTuk's teaching materials so that they can use them in their future lessons.

We're also setting up a new challenge for this session. To introduce new materials, we asked a few of the teachers to play their role as teachers, explaining the game and providing a brief overview to the other participants in the workshop. This way, we think teachers will be taking more initiative and engaging in the workshop.

As preparation, we asked these teachers to play these games and activities with the children during our Mobile Library visits. It was a valuable opportunity to witness how the teachers use our materials and how they interact with their students while they are using them.

VOLUNTUKER SPOTLIGHT | MAYU

This month, we have Mayu, the big sister, and TukTuk staff adviser, who is in charge of our daily activities!

A small trivia about Mayu 😉:

What I like about Cambodia:People, everyone is so kind and caring, and everyone loves to eat!
One word to describe TukTuk:”Family” in Cambodia for me.
A word for everyone: Thank you for always supporting TukTuk. We have been away from Pursat, but thanks to the dedication of our team, I am able to provide remote backup with confidence. When you meet our Tukstaff, you would love them as if they were your Cambodian family. And not only the staff but also we are truly blessed with  the relationships with local community, including the officers and teachers. And, of course, we are fortunate to have you all! We hope to keep these relationships strong!

Mayu, who is fluent in Japanese, English, and Khmer, has gained the trust of not only the Tukstaff, but also the teachers and educational officials in Pursat. And even now that she is in Japan, they frequently ask, "How is Mayu doing?" 😄
Her warm and friendly personality naturally draws people to her because she is very accepting of everyone. 😊
