Last Chance for Public Comment on 21 Two-Dwelling Unit Development


The Bend Planning Commission is taking public comment on a revised application to build 21 small unit detached homes on 1.73 acres, each with an Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU) between Brookswood Boulevard and Blakely Road, just north of Millbrook Lane. Each primary home will be about 800 square feet plus garage, and each ADU will be about 400 square feet. You can find more details and plans on the planning application web page.

No additional public hearing is being held as this revised application was deemed to have only minor changes since the previous public hearing. Public comment must be received by Monday May 9. Send your comments to cityplanningcommissionall@bendoregon.gov to reach all members of the Planning Commission. Be sure to mention the project number PLLD20220098.
Public Hearings to Allow Land Subdivision of 2/3/4-Plex Developments

Amendments have been proposed to the Bend Development Code (BDC) in response to Senate Bill 458 which was passed by the Oregon Legislature in 2021. (These changes are a follow-up to significant Code changes passed by City Council last fall, supporting higher housing density and reduced requirements.) The new law requires cities to allow lots holding duplex, triplex, and quadplex housing to be subdivided into individual lots for each unit. For example, a triplex could be built on a lot and then split into three smaller lots each containing one dwelling unit (see diagram below), by using an expedited land division procedure. The Planning Commission will hold a virtual public hearing on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 5:30 pm. for these Development Code changes. See attendance instructions on the meeting agenda, which also contains links to related documents.

The City Council will also hold a “hybrid” public hearing Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 7:00 pm for these Development Code changes. You may attend the hearing in person at city offices at 555 NE 15th Street, or virtually. Instructions for virtual attendance will be posted on the Council agenda prior to the hearing date.

Two Town Hall meetings were recently held on the topic of Houseless Strategies and the proposed Shelter Code amendments to the Bend Development Code. Neighborhood Speed Radar Locations

Thanks to everyone who submitted requests for a radar sign. The following three locations have been recommended to the City of Bend:
  • Silver Lake Blvd, southbound South of Chukar
  • Brookswood Blvd, southbound by Blakely Park
  • Hill Ave, northbound towards Wilson Ave
The signs are an educational tool to encourage people to slow down. They also collect speed and volume data. The signs are placed May - October throughout neighborhoods, for 2 to 3 weeks. These locations were primarily selected based on not having had a sign in the past and having a signpost or room in the road for a mobile unit. Let's Pull Together

Join your neighbors on Saturday, May 21, 9 am - 12 pm for Bend’s annual Let's Pull Together.  This event  has evolved into a citywide effort consisting of partnerships and incredible volunteers joining together to clean up debris, plant native pollinators, and remove non-native invasive plants from our neighborhood, and other locations all over Bend.
