5 Questions for Our Governor about The Kay Ivey Transgender School

Every child in Alabama deserves access to a world-class education that prioritizes outcomes over ideology. Our most vulnerable children are no exception to that promise. Alabama is dead last in math - and at the bottom in education. It is unconscionable that even one dollar would be diverted away from reading, writing and arithmetic to prop up this radical agenda. Kay Ivey’s priorities don’t reflect our values and Alabama’s parents deserve answers.

1. While Alabama students suffer in bottom-of-the-barrel schools, why did you divert tax payer dollars to a transgender school?

2. Alabama has lagged behind the rest of the nation in mental health and special education funding for years. How do you justify diverting millions to a transgender school instead of addressing mental health and special education funding?

3. Too many Alabama students arrive hungry to class each and everyday. Should the millions of dollars being spent on your transgender school have been spent ensuring Alabama’s students don’t go hungry?

4. Access to the internet is life changing for our students in rural Alabama. How do you explain diverting money to a transgender school when so many students lack basic access to the internet?

5. How many teachers could you have hired instead of funding your transgender school?

I have seen first-hand in my work with the Adullam House here in Alabama and our work in countries across the globe that the single greatest thing we can do to break generational poverty for a child is to educate them.

“Our youngest children deserve to be children, to learn and to thrive. I know that, you know that and the parent’s of Alabama know that - it’s just a shame that our Governor doesn’t.”
