Working with DoD Funding Agencies- A Program Officer's Perspective

Please join us on May 26 from 12-2pm for in-person presentations from Dr. Ken Caster, DOD Program Official for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) where he will present a talk titled:

"Working with DoD Funding Agencies - A Program Officer’s Perspective"

For more than two decades, Dr. Caster has been involved in basic science research at both the AFOSR and the Army Research Office (ARO) and he will share his insights about these agencies.  This presentation will focus on funding processes used by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) but will also be relevant to other DoD funding agencies (Army Research Office, ARO; Office of Naval Research, ONR).  The presentation will address topics related to the Broad Agency Announcement, BAA; white papers; proposal submission; funding timelines; program reviews; communications all from the mindset of the program officer.

This is an ideal opportunity for early career faculty and “DoD-interested” researchers to gain clear insights on creating competitive applications for these proposals.

Supporting UNC Faculty through Honors and Recognition

National Medal of Science

The National Medal of Science (NMS) is the highest recognition the nation can bestow on scientists and engineers. It was established by the 86th Congress in 1959 as a Presidential Award to be given to individuals "deserving of special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to knowledge in the physical, biological, mathematical, or engineering sciences." In 1980, Congress expanded this recognition to include the social and behavioral sciences. The National Science Foundation is seeking nominations for the NMS from February 7 through May 20, 2022.

National Academy of Engineering

The call for nominations and reference support occurs between February and May; nomination packets are released only to members.
