Chief Antonio DeVaul of the Takoma Park Police Department would like to thank everyone who participated in the Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 30, 2022. Overall, Takoma Park Police collected 358 lbs. of medications. This Nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back campaign is important as it gives the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Thank you to the men and women of the Takoma Park Police Department who run this campaign each year.
As a reminder, residents looking to dispose of excess and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications can visit the safe and secure permanent drop off location at the City of Takoma Park Police Department, 7500 Maple Avenue, 1st Floor Lobby, Takoma Park, Maryland 20912. The Takoma Park community can safely dispose of any unwanted/unused prescription and non-prescription drugs, patches, ointments, over-the-counter medications, vitamins or pet medication, by placing the unwanted/unused medication in the green Med-Return mailbox. The collection site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Drugs can be dropped off with no questions asked.
Items that CANNOT be left are liquids, inhalers, aerosol cans, regular household ointments/lotions, needles/sharps and/or thermometers.
Also accepted: Vape pens and other e-cigarette devices BUT only after the batteries are removed from such devices.
The Takoma Park Police Department will collect and store these items and then safely dispose of them through accepted practices as done in past Take Back Events.
