We have a unique perspective as Christians. We acknowledge the darkness and injustice in the world, yet are called to “walk by faith, not by sight.” This month we explore that walk of faith by pairing calls to hope with ideas for positive action. Through avenues such as sustainable investing, intentional gardening, and faithful worship, we CAN make a difference!

A Vision for Climate Justice

“We can pray and work for the physical universe and the moral universe to bend together toward justice. We can pray and work for right relationships between people, God, and the rest of the living world to be restored. We can’t do it by our own strength: we need God to empower us to live as followers of the Way.” Read more from Nate Rauh-Bieri on the importance of working with hope for climate justice.

EDUCATION

Sustainable Investing Workshop

Christian investing is about empowering the businesses and endeavors that are good for people, culture, and the broader environment. So what should that look like in practice? We’re hosting a webinar on “Sustainable Investing: Your Money Matters” with Kurt Holzhueter of ClearView Investments. The webinar will be on May 26th, from 8-9pm EST. Register now to reserve your spot!

WORSHIP

Climate Vigil Album

Worship takes our eyes off of ourselves, and helps us to look to God for grace and strength. That’s why we’re excited about the new Climate Vigil Songs worship album from The Porter’s Gate. This worship album is focused on the climate crisis. 80% of the funds have been raised to cover production, but help is needed to close the gap. Will you help? Invest now and receive a free album upon release.

ENERGY STEWARDSHIP

Spring Gardening 101

Do you have a garden? Growing your own food is a rewarding way to reduce your carbon footprint while also eating healthier. And it doesn’t matter whether you have a large yard or a small balcony. Here’s some ideas for getting that home garden started. And while you’re digging in the dirt, what about launching a church-based community garden? This is a beautiful way to reach out, as a church in Western Canada discovered.

ADVOCACY

Take a stand against environmental injustice

As people of faith confronted with our role in harming our shared world, we must also redress the statistical truth that low-income, tribal, Indigenous, and racial minority communities are disproportionately impacted by environmental hazards. That’s why it is important that WE advocate for justice in upcoming legislation. Learn more at our advocacy center.

Evangelical Leadership on Climate Change

“We cannot love our neighbor if we’re not fighting for clean air, clean water, and a stable climate to support them,” according to Rev. Kyle Meyaard-Schaap. Meyaard-Schaap was recently featured as one of Grist’s 50 sustainability leaders in 2022, and we’re excited to see the excellent work of our partners at the Evangelical Environmental Network featured in this profile. Meet Your Regional Organizers

Meet Jay de Man, CWP’s Chicago Organizer

Jay’s love for God’s created world started early. “I grew up learning about these issues and seeing the consequences of our lifestyles, especially here in the West.” As an adult, he’s passionate about helping Christians understand how our care for creation reflects our love for our Creator. And for those wondering how to begin, he suggests starting with taking a walk. “It can be really abstract to think about ‘the environment’ or our ‘carbon emissions’, but taking walks and seeing what natural resources are in your area and what is still alive…can give you an entry point into the imagination for why this matters.”

Help us address the urgency of climate change.
