Shawn Pander will perform for us. Check out his tunes!

A live bingo game will be another way to support Thundering Paws - I don’t know how the bingo will work, but we’ll find out!

We’ll also have pictures and stories of our cuties on the tables, and just about everywhere you look. You’ll be overwhelmed with cat cuteness.

Want to wear your Thundering Paws support!  You can buy a limited edition Thundering Paws t-shirt on-site.

Market Vendors will include: Bell Springs Products (I swear by Arnica Comfort, the BEST salve for aches and pains); Frey Collars (locally made pet collars and accessories); White Deer Apothecary (herbal body care); Apothecary Blends (locally created tea blends); KynKia (products for natural or curly hair); Westlake Rock Shop (crystals, jewelry, cool rocks); The Mothership (bath bombs, bath oils); and Direct from Mars (locally created jewelry and wood products.) Each vendor will donate a product for our silent auction.

We'll also have a Silent Auction! If you’d like to donate items to the silent auction, please email Tracy. Look at this beautiful picture that was donated for the silent auction! The artist captured the happy kitten face perfectly.

Board members, volunteers, and staff will be on hand to bend your ears about Thundering Paws. We talk to each other all the time. Please come: we need some new people to talk to. 😃

Kitten Season’s Frenzied, Wild Ride!

Pixel, a young cat with two broken femurs, came to us from San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. Her broken bones need to be addressed as quickly as possible and we were able to step up!
On April 6, we left on vacation.

I’m in charge of intake, but our staff and volunteers do everything that happens afterward—assessing the kitty/kitties; weighing them; getting them to a vet if necessary; deworming, de-flea-ing and vaccinating with FVRCPs on a schedule; microchipping; fostering and moving them around to other fosters as necessary; driving them to the vet clinic for spay/neuter/rabies vaccine—it’s overwhelming. I tell staff and volunteers on March 28 that I’ll cease intake until our return.

On March 30, Kerrville Pets Alive (KPA) volunteer, Shelly, emails me about a heavily pregnant cat at the Kerrville municipal shelter. This shelter has yet to achieve no-kill status, and cannot house a cat and kittens. This cat has very little time to be rescued. I say, “Bring her here.”

I contact a wonderful mom and kitten foster, Jean. She’s excited, as are her friends, Helen and Jill. I’ve gotten three people excited about getting a pregnant cat.

But wait! She’s got blue eyes: Siamese Rescue will take her. I say, “Whew!” I’m disappointing the fosters, but I didn’t intake another cat (and kittens.)

But wait! There’s another pregnant cat at Kerrville. I say, “Bring her here.” The three excited people are fine with the switch, the kitty is christened Whisper, and all is good…except I said I wouldn’t take any more cats before I leave.

On April 1, we get the call about the kitty in the attic, now named Moxie. The owners sold their house, but their cat won’t come out of the attic crawl space. They want the cat, Diana’s a trapper, quick turn around with no intake, right?

Diana easily trapped the cat, but we’re appalled at her condition—emaciated and dehydrated! She MUST see a vet! More than food, she wants attention, which she gets from us.

The vet is appalled at her condition also. We ask the people to surrender her to us. They do. A medical foster is free. We’re all relieved that she is on her way back to health. All is good…except I said I wouldn’t take any more cats before I leave.

On April 1, Maria from San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter (SMRAS) had sent me a picture of Pixel, the young cat with two broken femurs. I said we couldn’t take her because we’re going on vacation. She resends the picture on April 5, saying no one has stepped up for her.

Broken bones need to be addressed as quickly as possible. I contact our overworked vet who can fit her in for an exam at 3. I’m supposed to be packing, so I contact volunteer Gina who drives to San Marcos, gets Pixel, and delivers her to the vet.

He says he can fix her surgically, and that’s scheduled. We have another medical foster free and excited about Pixel. All is good…except I said I wouldn’t take any more cats before I leave.

On April 6, I forward my emails and we take off. I’ve had to eat my words, “no more cats until we return,” three times. I’m grateful for our staff and volunteers who are on board with it all. Three fosters have stepped up to allow kitties to live.

While I’m gone, staff and volunteers are alerted to an extremely pregnant cat. They found a foster, and are primed to take her.

But wait! She’s delivering kittens! The foster is unfazed. Mom and five babies go to their new digs where they’ll be cared for by our overworked staff and volunteers. Hey, *I* didn’t do it!

On the day we leave our vacation site to come home, I get a text about the six neonatal kittens found in the dumpster. Scott is driving. Thank goodness for cell phones! I line up vets, fosters, KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer), and everything needed to help these tiny spirits. We’ve taken these six before I return home!

PLEASE FOSTER! We have cats coming in year-round, and kittens most of that time. You get who you want to foster. You needn’t take a pregnant cat or a medically vulnerable cat. We’ll send you supplies and stay connected to guide you through anything, every step of the way. In the immortal words of the late John Lennon, all you need is love.
