May Faire 2022 will happen this Saturday, May 7th, from 11:00am-2:00pm. It is open to all OWS families! Our May Faire will be extra special this year as we'll begin the event with an "OWS Procession of the Species" parade! Students will be encouraged to dress in "species costumes" and will parade with each class.
The following are the species assigments per class:
1st : Jellyfish
2nd: Beetles
3rd: Bees
4th: Orcas
5th: Bunnies
Middle School: Mushrooms
We'll also have flower crown making, maypole dancing, 8th grade reports to view, a plant sale, raffles, candle dipping, a silent auction and finally...we'll end with picnic blanket BINGO! Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and enjoy a few rounds of bingo as a family!
**For the safety of our school, our students, our teachers and our families masking is recommended. And we also kindly ask that if you have any symptoms the morning of that you please test before coming.

Want to make May Faire extra easy on yourself? Pre-purchase a punch card and Bingo cards! We'll have them available to pick up on Friday, May 6th. Merrymaking Punch Cards are available in $10 or $25 increments and Bingo cards at $5 each.
A few parking notes:
Please drive under 10 mph on the gravel road (80th Ave).
There is a water pump in the center of the field. So, please do not crash it.
The gravel road is private road, not public road. There is not a stop sign at east side of Normandy Street and 80th Ave. We strongly recommend people to make stop when you go through Normandy Street for their safety.

Our 5th Graders recently did a two night overnight science camp at Camp Solomon Schechter and presented their class play during the trip!
What could be a better way to end the year than with a wonderful meal in the Kinderwoods!
The event includes:
Multi course seated meal made by Farmer Lenny with vegetables from Sundance Farms and oysters from Olympic Oyster Co! (Vegetarian main course available)
A knife forging demo by Mareko Maumasi of Maumasi Fire Arts. Thebench knife made by Mareko will be raffled off that evening. Each dinner ticket includes a raffle entry. Can't make the dinner? Purchase a raffle ticket!(need not be present to win)
Two drinks per person provided by Well80 and Triceratops breweries
Childcare options available.
10% of proceeds go to 8th grade class trip and the remaining fundraising efforts support the Olympia Waldorf School!

Natalia Frankus, mother of Victor in 3rd grade, has been personally impacted by the war in Ukraine. Her hometown has been completely destroyed and many lives have been lost. You can help by collecting items from the following list. Items will be donated to the Ukrainian Association of Washington State. Their headquarters are in Renton and items collected are being sent to the refugee camps in Poland and other European countries and directly to Ukraine. The Association has a website with directions for monetary donations as well: https://uaws.org
Here is the list of items that are needed the most:
First aid/trauma kits (tourniquets, bandages of different sizes, bleed stop)
Non perishable food/MRE’s (no cans). Camping food pouches are the best.
Baby powdered formula and baby food in pouches.
Personal hygiene items (tampons and pads, baby diapers, travel size toothpaste and brushes, wipes, stick deodorants and lotions in travel size)
New socks and underwear in all sizes and genders
New sleeping bags and blankets
Items not acceptable for shipping
Used clothes and blankets
Candles
Perishable, canned or jarred foods
Anything inflatable
Alcohol containing items
Aerosols or liquids
Knives, batteries, matches
Perfumes and aftershave
Drugs or supplements
Camping stoves
Compressed air and gas cylinders
Military equipment including wests and helmets
In addition, an emergency support fund is being coordinated by the Friends of Waldorf Education (Freunde) (Freunde der Erziehungskunt Rudolf Steiners e.V.). At the moment, Ukrainian children and families are being supported in finding places in Waldorf Schools in Europe, and Waldorf families throughout Europe are opening their homes to them. Financial support is being sent to Ukraine to support the Waldorf teachers who have lost their income due to the closing of schools, and emergency pedagogy teams will be working with traumatized Ukrainian children. The types of support will continue to evolve in order to meet the most urgent needs.
Our hearts go out to those who are struggling during this time.
AWSNA puts out a seasonal magazine called School Renewal featuring fantastic articles from students, teachers, alums and beyond. The Editing Advisory Board is already working on the Fall 2022 edition of the magazine. The theme is performing arts. They are looking for articles relative to the theme by students, teachers, and alum performers – from opera to hard rock, live theatre, film acting, puppetry, dance, eurythmy, comedy, etc. It should be fun!

A reminder, the primary audience for School Renewal is parents. As such, articles should aim to educate and inspire, and also deepen and expand thinking as it relates to the AWSNA Principles for Waldorf Schools, and varied manifestations, innovations, and initiatives across the continent and the globe.
Articles should be no greater than 1500 words in length, Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced. Not all articles are accepted, primarily due to overall tone and flow which comes together during production. Those that are not selected can easily be transferred to your school newsletter or blog!
Submissions must include the suggested article title, and name(s) and member affiliation of the author(s).
Payment for published articles tends to range from $150 to $550 depending on placement and length.
