Matthew 28:19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
When all is said and done, what defines a life well lived? We invest our time in things. Though we are fond of the idea that we “spend” time, I prefer to think of it in terms of time invested. It reminds me that time can and usually does produce a return. I don’t like to think of some of those returns, but I can recite whole lines of certain movies, sing songs from memory that I learned as a teen, and I have a hand full of TV jingles and ads tucked away, because of the way I invested some of my time.
I also know a couple of alphabets, some math principles, more than a few textual references, and the names of perhaps a few hundred people. These are representative of some other time investment strategies. When Jesus was extending final words to the first leaders of the Christian church, he chose to assign a time investment strategy and an expected outcome.
If you think of the church in business terms, Jesus told the church what our product would be. And he told us how to invest our time toward that outcome. Jesus said that we would need to go out into the whole world and find those who might want to become disciples. Then we should share the spiritual right of baptism with them to signify that they had chosen to follow Jesus. Last and perhaps from that point on, we were to focus on teaching them to observe everything that we have discovered about Jesus.
The church is in the discipleship business. The outcome of a church’s work should be to produce disciples. This is a long process. It is a lifetime undertaking. But the church is not called to produce fully mature disciples of Jesus. We are to produce disciples or imitators of Jesus.
A disciple is a person that seeks to replicate his master in himself. He is a copy, a devotee, a follower, and even an impersonator of the master. People who spend time with a disciple will know the master from seeing the pupil. That is what the church is called to do. How do we invest our time?
We make ourselves into the best copy of Jesus that we can today. We rub shoulders with the world around us as we are going about our day, in imitation of Jesus. (You know asking, “What would Jesus do right now?”) Then we talk to the open ones about our experience with Jesus. (Again, you know – “This is how my life with Jesus works for me.”)
We are in the disciple production business. How is business?

Leoni Meadows Clinic Fundraiser
The medical clinic at Leoni was consumed by fire and is now in the process of being rebuilt. Please click the link below to see how you can help restock the clinic.
Cheri Welty has been a nurse at Leoni for many years and has this to share with our church family:
"The picture of children’s artwork is from inside the clinic last summer. When I have kids visit me that may need to go home because they are running a fever or something else I help them pass the time by having them draw me a picture. It is always so touching to see what part of camp is special to them and to see how they express their experience at camp.
Being a nurse at Leoni is so much more than just attending to the physical needs of the campers and staff. Frequently campers and staff come because of emotional pain that they manifest as a physical ache. As nurses, we have to sort through the symptoms to identify the true source. Our desire is to heal whatever ailments campers have so that they can stay at camp and learn more about Jesus."
Gracepoint Potluck is the first Sabbath of each month!
