Invest for Better Introduces Elective Courses

Invest for Better currently offers a 6-month core curriculum that walks participants through values-aligned investing, engages them in discussions about their financial lives, and prepares them to transform their relationships with money. Our first cohort to experience this course will be completing their training in June. They are poised to move into action…and IFB is here to help them do just that! We are very excited to announce the development and delivery of additional course material that will allow our members to dive more deeply into the topics that interest them. Each of these “elective”courses will be 3 to 6 months in duration. Some will follow the self-guided format of the core curriculum, while others will be “live” sessions facilitated by an expert. A few of the topics under development include:

Financial Planning Basics: For those who want more grounding in the basic building blocks of a strong financial foundation. This course will take participants through a range of activities to ensure they are on-track to achieve their financial goals.
Aligning Your Public Equities: One of the questions we often hear is, “How do I find values-aligned investments in the stock market?” In this course, participants will use freely available tools to conduct joint research to answer that query.
Investing with a Climate Lens: Many investors today are concerned about the environment and want to ensure that their money is supporting sustainability. This course will provide insight into how to bring a climate focus to investments in any asset class.

Part of what makes the on-going series of courses so valuable and unique is that they are being developed by industry experts specifically for the IFB community. Just as female experts came together to support Activate Your Money and as they continue to uplift IFB, these Pathfinders are joining forces once again to ensure that the women who want to become values-aligned investors have the tools and resources they need to not only build their confidence and knowledge but to move into action. The Invest for Better community is so grateful for these amazing women who are contributing their time and talents to help all of us succeed. What a gift!

One Year Publication Anniversary

This month, we are celebrating the anniversary of the official publication of Activate Your Money on May 11, 2021. To mark the occasion, Ellen Remmer, and Janine Firpo will be hosting a Fireside Chat via Facebook Live on Wednesday, May 11th at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET. After a brief look back at the launch party, Ellen and Janine will reflect on the progress that has been made over the past year as they catalyze a movement in which millions of women are educated, enabled, and empowered to activate the power of their investments for social good and collectively influence capital markets to prioritize sustainability and social justice. Title: Cryptocurrency: Should You Be Investing?
Najah Roberts, Crypto Blockchain Plug

We are excited to welcome Najah Roberts, a crypto-currency expert, before she heads off on a 45-day, 45-city tour across the United States to change the financial trajectories of the individuals and communities that need it most. Najah has made it her personal goal to change the world crypto by crypto, block by block, city by city, state by state, and country by country. She is particularly passionate about ensuring that black and brown communities are aware of the opportunities inherent in what she calls the “digital financial revolution.” Not only did our members request more information on this topic, one of them introduced us to Najah. Title: Ask the Expert
Lisa Hayles, Trillium Asset Management

Every month, we offer our community an opportunity to speak directly with a financial expert. During these open-ended sessions, members can ask questions about any issues or concerns they have about their financial lives. This month, we are delighted to host Lisa Hayles, Director of International Shareholder Advocacy at Trillium Asset Management. Founded by Joan Bavaria in 1982, Trillium was the first values-aligned financial advisory firms. Today, Trillium manages over $5.6 billion. Although members can ask Lisa about anything, she is a great resource to discuss stakeholder activism and the role it plays in building a better world.

Tutorial: Summer Courses

As our current cohort graduates from their six-month core curriculum, IFB members have a range of options for the remainder of the year. In July, and then again in October, IFB will be offering a range of elective courses that members can participate in through their current Circles or in new configurations. During this tutorial, Janine will walk members through their options and provide more details on the different electives that will be available in the Summer and Fall months.
