  • Starting salary: $124,923 p/a plus 10% Superannuation

About the team
SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation. We also assist the State Insurance and Regulatory Authority to achieve safe, timely and durable return to work of workers following a workplace injury, through monitoring and enforcing employer obligations with workers compensation legislation. 

About the role
As an Assistant State Inspector in the Hygiene & Toxicology Team you will be responsible for providing advice & guidance on occupational hygiene issues related to hazardous chemicals and lead & support state-wide projects as part of SafeWork’s compliance and verifications programs relating to hazardous chemicals.

About you
Our ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge together with practical industry, workplace safety experience and occupational hygiene related qualifications. You will apply your industry knowledge, experience and qualifications to work in partnership with NSW workplaces to assist them in creating and maintaining work health and safety standards so that workers return home safely each day.

To be successful, you will have:
  • Hold an Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) or required to complete within 12 months of obtaining the Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection)
  • Relevant qualifications and experience in occupational hygiene, work health and safety and relevant industry experience
  • Strong communication skills to engage and influence key stakeholders to improve regulatory outcomes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well established resilience skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team
  • High level written communication skills and an ability to understand comprehensive and/or technical reports
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a timely manner
  • Solid knowledge and use of technology
Essential requirements
  • Ability to travel, work remotely and out of usual business hours
  • Hold a NSW ‘C’ class drivers' licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Satisfactory medical assessment capacity regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role
  • Hold an Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) or required to complete within 12 months of obtaining the Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection)
