Become a European Public Health Week event host
EFAD will be supporting the European Public Health Week once again this year. Organized by the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), it aims to raise awareness about public health and promote collaboration among the public health community in Europe.
The theme for this year's event, which takes place between 16 and 20 May, is 'Health throughout the life course'. EUPHA is looking for individuals, teams and organisations to raise awareness and make the case for public health and a more inclusive society across Europe.

This is the perfect opportunity to shine a light on your materials or topics you are interested in. Do you have existing research that deserves attention? Did you make a video or podcast about one of the five daily themes? Have you been working on your research and looking for a moment to publish it? Would you like to have a discussion about one of the themes? Or do you want to activate your community around a certain topic? You are more than welcome to contribute to the European Public Health Week as an event host.

New WHO report: Europe can reverse its obesity “epidemic”
The new WHO European Regional Obesity Report 2022, published on 3 May by the WHO Regional Office for Europe, reveals that overweight and obesity rates have reached epidemic proportions across the Region and are still escalating, with none of the 53 Member States of the Region currently on track to meet the WHO Global Noncommunicable Disease (NCD) target of halting the rise of obesity by 2025.

BDA launches Long Covid food fact sheet
The British Dietetic Association (BDA) has published its Long Covid and Diet fact sheet.
Written by dietitians working in this field, it discusses how diet can help with recovery, and answers some of the common dietary questions related to Long Covid, such as:
• What if I am losing weight and have a poor appetite?
• What might help with smell and taste changes?
• What can I do to help my gut health?
• Should I take vitamin and mineral supplements?
• What about a low histamine diet and Long Covid?
• How can a dietitian help?

Impact of the Ukraine Crisis on global malnutrition
Standing Together for Nutrition experts and partners published a joint statement in the science journal Nature on the impact of the war in Ukraine on global malnutrition. This call to action highlights the potential ways the nutritional status and health of women and children are affected from the unprecedented global rise in food, fuel, and fertilizer prices.

Commissioner Stella Kyriakides gave the opening speech at the Structural Dialogue with the European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. EFAD Education and Lifelong Learning Comittee webinar for Higher Education institutes: Practice placement evaluation form: HEIs working together - a Flemish story

Flemish Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) have joined efforts in the development of the internship evaluation form. For several years now, dietetic practice placements in Flanders use this unique document to evaluate dietetic trainees.
Are you keen to discover how the HEI’s worked together to establish this evaluation tool? We will discuss with you how we got inspired, realized and implemented the practice placement evaluation form for all dietetic students in Flanders, Belgium.

64th German Congress: Nutrition therapy and prevention
12-14 May
Organized by EFAD member VDD, the conference will take place virtually this year. More than 100 speakers from Germany and beyond will present and discuss the most up-to-date evidence on science and the relevance to evidence-based practice. The main goal of the Congress is supporting participants to empower their clients to increase quality of life and health with appropriate nutrition.
You will have the opportunity to attend more than 70 parallel sessions live or on demand. The official language of the congress is German.

Submit your proposal for a best practice on non-communicable diseases
The European Commission is calling for best practices for implementation in EU countries focusing on the five strands of the Healthier Together EU Non-Communicable Diseases Initiative:
- cardiovascular diseases
- diabetes
- chronic respiratory diseases
- mental health and neurological disorders
- health determinants.
Actions that address health inequalities and/or involve integrated Health in All Policies' approaches would be particularly appreciated.
The best practices will contribute to the Healthier together' EU Non-Communicable Diseases Initiative launched by the European Commission to support EU countries to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases and improve citizens' health.
