Downtown Denver residents and visitors:
Month-Long Intersection Closure at Blake and 16th Streets

A full intersection closure will occur at Blake and 16th streets starting as soon as Thursday, April 21, and will continue for approximately one month. This closure is required for the replacement of the existing aging water line across the intersection. Please watch for traffic signage for closure and detour information.

Blake Street will temporarily be in a two-way configuration between 15th and 17th streets with a temporary signal at 17th Street. Parallel parking will be limited along Blake Street.  Access to parking structures and surface lots will be maintained.

Detour Information

If traveling on Blake Street towards 16th Street, motorists will be detoured left onto 17th Street, right onto Larimer Street, right onto 15th Street and then left onto Blake Street. Or, motorists can continue straight on 15th Street and turn right onto Wazee Street. One crosswalk at the intersection will be closed at a time, but access will be maintained for people moving through the intersection.

Construction workdays and hours are anticipated to be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Weekend work will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Material deliveries and staging may occur overnight. Construction work and schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Beginning as soon as Monday, April 25, pre-construction utility work for steam line design will take place between Champa and Stout streets. This work will require short-term closures to sidewalks and transitway locations along the 16th Street Mall. Here is what to expect with these potholing activities:

  • One lane of the Free MallRide will remain open in each direction.
  • Expect alternating lane closures on the cross streets and transitway of the 16th Street Mall for a few days. Watch for signage and occasional flaggers.
  • Business access will not be impacted.
  • All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

RTD Invites You to Give Feedback:
Systemwide Fare Study and
Equity Analysis

In response to comments about the complexity of fares and in an effort to reconnect with customers following the COVID-19 pandemic, RTD has launched a Systemwide Fare Study and Equity Analysis to examine RTD’s fares and explore alternative fare structures and pass programs.

The study will focus on creating a new fare structure that is:
  • Equitable: By supporting transit reliant and financially burdened customers and providing equitable and fair access to fares, products, and discounts regardless of race, color, national origin, income status, and for other marginalized communities.
  • Affordable: By aligning fares with the value of the service received.
  • Simple: By making fares easy to understand, with standardized discounts and streamlined fare payment options.
Get Involved!
Are you interested in shaping the future of RTD fares and pass programs? Over the coming year, there will be a variety of opportunities to help shape the direction of this study, including through surveys and virtual customer and community meetings. Whether you’re a regular customer or you have yet to use RTD’s bus or rail service, RTD wants to hear your thoughts. At this time, the best way to give us your feedback is to take the Current Conditions Fare Survey by clicking here. Please stay tuned for more opportunities in the future to share your opinions. RTD looks forward to hearing from you!
