Brussels, April 2022
DEAR READERS,

Social justice in Europe has been facing since 24th February its most severe enemy: war. The Spring 2022 Cohort of ELP is again a special group of Fellows, this time not because of covid, but much more as they must witness a large scale conventional war unfolding in front of their eyes, with all war crimes and atrocities behind the lines. This will necessarily mark this generation. It is simply impossible to look at the map of Europe, to reflect on its history and to imagine its political future without taking into account that peace was just a privileged time on a restrained territory – the European Union – on this continent.

The European Common Good is however not restricted to the EU. It must be truly European. The Leadership Fellows are and will continue learning about how social justice can be supported and made functional in the 21st century amid all the challenges of war, climate change and economic turmoil, resulting in social injustice on so many occasions.

Leading with example and demonstrating goodwill is of utmost importance. The ELP is such a programme where Fellows are witnessing leaders of the EU and in parallel, they witness each other every single day. Thoughts and reflections follow on spiritual and practical level. One cannot be a leader in theory. It was made visible more than ever by recent events that we need human and humane leadership based on strong values. Thank you for caring about and supporting the Ignatian inspired ELP in Brussels!

We officially open the 7th Edition of the European Leadership Programme. The inauguration session of the Spring Cohort of 2022 was held in the ELP residence on 5th March.
The event, hosted by Peter Rožič SJ, JESC's Director, and Enikő Fehéreková, ELP Junior Officer, was followed by a cycle of presentations from the Fellows.
"Dear ELP Fellows: Today you join a distinct and growing Ignatian Programme. Let the ELP principles guide your future growth".

Peter Rožič SJ welcomed the ELP Fellows with a presentation about peace and Ignatian leadership, and encouraged them to discover how the Jesuit Formation can be transformative.
The session featured a round of Games and House Rules, facilitated by Enikő Fehéreková. The session ended with an Ignatian moment provided by Peter Rožič SJ.
This Cohort is composed by highly qualified and motivated Fellows that embraced the adventure of moving to Brussels to live and work for the next five months. Don’t miss the chance to meet the new Spring Cohort of 2022 here.
