Spot the therapy dog is coming back on Saturday May 21! Between 10:00 am. - 11:00 a.m., kids can sign up for a fifteen-minute appointment to read to Spot, who is a very good listener and won't judge you if you mess up. To sign up call the library 412-731-2300. Between 11:00 a.m. - Noon, everyone is invited to come say hi to Spot, pet her, or ask questions about therapy dogs. All are welcome.
Virtual Speaker Event with Isabel Wilkerson Monday May 9 @ 7:30 pm - Join us to hear Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson discuss her new book, Caste: The Origins of our Discontent. This non fiction book explores how America—today and throughout its history—is shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Register and receive a zoom link here.
Computer Tutor - Thursdays from 11 am to 2 pm: You may sign up for a 30 minutes session to get help with using and navigating your device! Note: we cannot help with hardware issues. This is an All Ages program. To sign up: visit or call the library or email Erin at caine2@einetwork.net.
Careerlink is at the library! Need career advice, help with a job search, resume or interview? PA CareerLink® representative will be on-site at Swissvale Library every Friday 1-4 pm.
Plant Sale on Saturday May 7: Pick up veggies and flowers for your spring garden! 100% of proceeds benefit projects of the Swissvale Community Garden, and all plants have been lovingly started from seed by Swissvale resident volunteers. Location: front yard of Swissvale Library.
Volunteer Position: Plant Wizard. We're looking for a new volunteer Plant Wizard to care for the many beautiful indoor plants that we have at the library. This generally takes around 2 hours per week. Some lifting required. If you're interested, email Kate at colucciok@swissvalelibrary.org

Kids & Teens

Preschool & STEAM kits available May 9! Pick up in the library lobby. School age kids get a science experiment or STEAM activity. Pre-readers get a concept kit with an early learning or an early literacy activity. This month involves a spring scavenger hunt!

Make It To Grow Kit available Saturday May 7- In our final kit, you will find sheets of handmade paper and a set of watercolors so you can draw your favorite veggie or flower on the sheet (these sheets are made with seeds and can be planted as well) See you there!

Puzzle Exchange! Visit the library lobby to take a puzzle or to donate a puzzle, no need to return them. The weekly puzzle contests will run through the end of May, and then will take a pause. Thanks to all those who participated!

Baby and Toddler Storytime - Tuesdays @ 11am. Get ready for stories, songs, rhymes, and activities! We meet in the stroller-accessible library basement. Check the library’s website for more details.

Minecraft Mondays @ 5pm - For school-age kids and tweens. Play Minecraft online with your friends! We play using Java Edition, which is incompatible with phones and mobile devices. Contact Miss Cece for login information (caroc@einetwork.net).

Saturday Fun @ 12-2pm: On May 7 Artist-in-Residence Katy DeMent will be hosting a live event of paper making (with seeds) outside the library. Kits available at time of event. See you there!

Anime Club - Every 2nd & 4th Wednesday @ 5 pm. For tweens and teens. Join us to explore Japanese culture and talk about and watch some of your favorite anime. 

Adult Book Groups

Book Groups meet on Mondays & Thursdays! A list of books selected for 2022 is available here. We invite you to peruse the titles and consider joining one of the four discussion groups. Just call or stop by the front desk to request a copy of an upcoming book. For more info, caros@einetwork.net.

Summer Music Live at the Library!

We're gearing up for a musical summer! Make your summer music plans now. Check out the lineup on our webpage. All Music Under the Tree concerts are free and will take place in the library's front yard.
Beethoven is coming to the Swissvale Library!
A quartet of the Pittsburgh Symphony will perform at Swissvale Library on Tuesday, June 21st at 5:30 PM. Tickets are free but need to be reserved. Walk-ups are welcome but available seating is not guaranteed. Click here to reserve your seat.
