NCTR Expands Support to Help Residency Programs Increase Enrollment of Candidates of Color
NCTR has announced new efforts to help increase the number of Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) teachers in Texas, Arizona and Minnesota where teacher and teacher education program enrollment has declined in recent years. Specific plans include the development of two new teacher residency programs, support for existing teacher residency programs, and support for continuous learning and improvement through the development of lab sites to serve teacher residency programs across NCTR’s Network. New Mexico Takes Action to Support the Teacher Workforce
On March 1, 2022, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed several pieces of historic legislation that lend support to the teacher workforce, and more specifically, teacher residencies. With unanimous support, this legislation raises the minimum teacher salary by $10,000 and includes support for teacher retirement funds, with the intent to address drastic teacher shortages. Two New Staff Members Join the NCTR Team
Cortney Rowland joined NCTR in November as the Director of State and Federal Policy. In this role, she leads the development and implementation of the overall policy priorities and strategy for NCTR. Cortney has worked for 20 years to connect research, policy, and practice and collaborate with schools, districts, and states to improve their systems of recruiting, developing, and supporting teachers and school leaders.
Alicia Roberson joined NCTR in January as the organization’s Associate Director of Marketing and Communications. Alicia brings a wealth of experience in project and brand management, coordinating publications, media relations and developing integrated communication plans to the position.
