Higher Ground

In just a few days, we will be hosting for the 41st  time an important community luncheon celebrating the National Day of Prayer.  Whereas prayer for this nation and its people goes back to the birth of the country, the observance of a National Day of Prayer was formally established by law during the Truman administration and set to the first Thursday in May in 1988 while President Reagan was in office.  Somewhere along the line a practice was established that each year the seated President issues an official National Day of Prayer Proclamation.  For many years now we have read these proclamations at our annual luncheon.

Of course, prayer takes on many shapes and forms.  Our longstanding National Day of Prayer event lifts up the many diverse beliefs present in our North Texas community and rejoices in those differences.  Seeking to go beyond mere tolerance and coexistence, we endeavor to spread understanding and appreciation of the many various expressions of culture and faith… just another small step in our journey together to HIGHER GROUND.

We welcome all people of goodwill to be a part of the National Day of Prayer Luncheon on May 5  at the Meyerson Symphony Center. You will be glad that you joined us, and we will be glad as well!

Choose LOVE Over Hate!

Serving Up Gratitude

In connection with National Hospital Week and National Police Week in May, we are partnering with North Texas Cares to Serve Up Gratitude for frontline workers.

During the week of May 9, we will purchase individually packaged meals from local restaurants to deliver to ICU and ER workers at eight area hospitals, the Dallas Police Department, and Dallas Fire and Rescue. We hope that our initiative, in addition to thanking these heroes, will provide a small measure of much needed support for local restaurants.
