This 11th Annual St. Johns River Festival of the Arts is this weekend! What makes this art festival so special is the fact that artists offer educational demonstrations and guests have the opportunity to create their own art!
Opening this weekend is the musical "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" at the Ritz Theater, while the musical "Bonnie & Clyde" at West End Theater is in its second week.

April 30th & May 1st: St Johns River Festival of the Arts
Come experience art like never before at the 11th annual St. Johns River Festival of the Arts in the heart of Historic Downtown Sanford. Join us from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 30th and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 1st as artists from all over the country showcase their art, offer educational demonstrations and give guests the opportunity to create their own works of art.
Enjoy gourmet tastes at our 'Culinary Arts Court' while you listen to the sounds of acoustic performers and sip from a selection of beer.
Admission to this event is free and all proceeds will benefit the festival’s Art-For-Kids Scholarship program.

Saturday, April 30th: Family Chalkfest at Sanford Library
Family Chalkfest (PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Space is limited. Choose between a 9:30 –10:30AM session or a 10:45 –11:45 AM session. Free – for all ages) – Join us Saturday, April 30th from 9:30-12:30 PM to create your very own chalk art on the sidewalks near library. Families will be assigned asidewalk square to decorate. Supplies will be provided. We will have music, bubbles, take-home crafts,and a chalk obstacle course.

This event isn’t just a bike ride! It is a journey through our community’s rich history.
On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing enslaved people. More than two years later, at the end of the Civil War, on May 20, 1865, General Edward McCook arrived in Tallahassee, FL, read the proclamation effectively ending slavery in the state of Florida.
