Weekly Encouragement

The Ekklesia DNA of Harvest Valley, Part 1

We started our series on the Model (Lord’s) Prayer that Jesus taught His disciples this last Sunday.  Praying with power requires that we pray with purpose, and we touched on the fact that the church (ekklesia) was left on this earth with purpose.

We Believe that the Ekklesia is the Point

• God always was and is about people.
• Mankind fell, and God provided salvation for them.
• Those He saved are called the church, whom He loves.
• God does everything in the context of relationship.

Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
“Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church (ekklesia), and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matt.16:17-19 NKJV)

He rules the whole universe in relation to His people, the church. (The whole Old Testament is about His ruling over and dealing with the nations in relation to His people. The book of Revelation is about His ruling in relation to the church.)

Jesus coopted the term church (ekklesia) from the Greco-Roman culture. The Ekklesia is a group of select (called out) people who are chosen to propagate the culture (language, arts, education, business, government, and family structures) of their kingdom. Jesus is establishing His kingdom through the Ekklesia (the church).
