Dance On Ensemble on Tour
Wir freuen uns sehr, im Mai mit dem Dance On Ensemble an zwei großartigen Orten auftreten zu können.
Am 12. und 13. Mai 2022 zeigen wir auf der Triennale Milano verschiedene Stücke aus der Programmreihe „Making Dances - Dancing Replies“, für die wir zeitgenössische Künstler:innen gebeten haben, auf ikonische Werke der Tanzgeschichte zu antworten.
Miki Orihara - langjährige Graham-Tänzerin und Dance On Ensemblemitglied – tanzt in der Neueinstudierung von Martha Grahams Stück „Deep Song“ aus dem Jahr 1937. Eine Neoninstallation des britischen Künstlers Tim Etchells bildet hierfür den Rahmen. Am ersten Vorstellungstag gibt Miki Orihara dazu einen Workshop für professionelle Tänzer, der sich u.a. mit der Technik Martha Grahams beschäftigt. Es folgen drei frühe Werke von Lucinda Childs aus den 1970er Jahren, auf die das italienische Künstlerduo Ginevra Panzetti / Enrico Ticconi mit seiner Produktion MARMO eine choreografische Antwort kreiert hat.
Am 18. Mai 2022 wird das Ensemble mit „Making Dances – Dancing Replies“ in der Bundeskunsthalle Bonn auftreten. Auch hier beginnen wir den Abend mit Grahams Werk „Deep Song“, gefolgt von einer Inszenierung basierend auf Merce Cunninghams „Story“. Die Struktur der Choreografie aus dem Jahr 1963 ist variabel: Die Gesamtdauer, die verwendeten Sequenzen und ihre Reihenfolge änderten sich von Performance zu Performance. Der Künstler Robert Rauschenberg konstruierte für jede Aufführung ein neues Set an Material. Das Dance On Ensemble hat für seine Neuinterpretation von „Story“ an jedem Aufführungsort einen lokalen Künstler ausgewählt, der Rauschenbergs Part übernimmt. In „Bonn Story. A re-imagining of Story“ arbeiten wir mit dem Künstler Paul Schwer zusammen. Die zeitgenössische Antwort kommt von der französischen Choreografin Mathilde Monnier, die in „never ending (Story)“ die Poesie von David Antin, einem Zeitgenossen von Cunningham/Cage, als Ausgangspunkt verwendet.
Auch unser Vermittlungsprogramm Dance On Partizipation wird im Mai in zwei Workshops die Arbeit mit Laien fortführen. Vom 9. bis 11. Mai 2022 geben die Dance On Ensemble Tänzerin Jone San Martin und die künstlerische Leiterin Dance On Partizipation, Laura Böttinger, einen Workshop für ältere Menschen im Centre Chorégraphique National in Rillieux-la-Pape. Vom 17. bis 19. Mai 2022 wird Laura Böttinger in ihrem Format Choreografisches Labor 60+ choreografische Ansätze zum Thema der Ausstellung "Farbe ist Programm" in der Bundeskunsthalle Bonn erarbeiten.
Und zuletzt ein kleiner Blick hinter die Kulissen: Im April haben wir in einem einwöchigen Workshop mit dem griechischen Choreografen Christos Papadopoulos zusammengearbeitet. Es war ein erstes Kennenlernen, bevor die Proben für die nächste große Produktion beginnen, die im Januar 2023 im Radialsystem Premiere feiern wird.

Dance On Ensemble on Tour
We are delighted to announce that the Dance On Ensemble is performing in two fantastic venues in May.
On 12 and 13 May 2022, we are showing pieces from the series “Making Dances – Dancing Replies” at the Milano Triennale, in which we asked contemporary artists to respond to iconic historical dance works.
Dance On Ensemble member and long-time Graham dancer Miki Orihara dances the 1937 Martha Graham solo “Deep Song” in a new setting, framed by a neon installation by the British artist Tim Etchells. On the occasion of the show, Miki Orihara offers a workshop dedicated to professional dancers focused on the concept of experience of essence in relation to the technique of Martha Graham. “Deep Song” is followed by three early works from Lucinda Childs’ oeuvre from the 1970s and then by MARMO, the Italian artist duo Ginevra Panzetti/Enrico Ticconi’s choreographic reply to these pieces.
On 18 May 2022, the ensemble will perform “Making Dances - Dancing Replies” at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn. Once again, the evening will open with Martha Graham's “Deep Song”, followed by a reimagining of Merce Cunningham's 1963 piece “Story”. The structure of this piece is chance-based: its total duration, movement sequences and their order change from one performance to the next. At the time, the artist Robert Rauschenberg constructed a new set for each performance, using materials he found in the venue on the day. The Dance On Ensemble follows this tradition by inviting a local artist to join the performance in each venue. In “Bonn Story. A re-imagining of Story”, they will be working with the artist Paul Schwer. The contemporary ‘reply’ to this piece was created by the French choreographer Mathilde Monnier, who uses the poetry of David Antin, a contemporary of Cunningham and Cage, as a starting point for her piece “never ending (Story)”.
Our participatory programme Dance On Participation will also continue working with amateurs in May, offering two public workshops. From 9 to 11 May 2022, ensemble member Jone San Martin and Dance On Participation Artistic Director Laura Böttinger will lead a workshop for older people at the Centre Choreaphique National in Rillieux-la-Pape. From 17 to 19 May 2022, Laura Böttinger’s Choreographic Lab 60+ will develop choreographic approaches to the theme of the exhibition “Farbe ist Programm” (Programmatic Colour) at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn.
Finally, we want to offer you a peek behind the scenes: In April, we held a week-long workshop with the Greek choreographer Christos Papadopoulos, enabling him and the dancers of the Dance On Ensemble to get to know each other before they start rehearsals for their big new production, which will premiere at Radialsystem Berlin in January 2023.
