Tonight, Dalat will continue an iconic tradition that has been a part of the Dalat experience for more than 50 years: the Junior Senior Banquet (JSB). I thought it would be worthwhile to take time this week to talk about this important and fun event.

JSB is a wonderful event put together by the Junior Class for the graduating seniors. Over the years, a number of traditions have become part of the JSB. The night itself has a theme and this has been a part of the evening since its beginning. Some of the themes from previous JSBs include An Evening in Paris (1984), Rock Around the Clock (1991), Winter Wonderland (2004), The Amazing Race (2007), A Journey to Neverland (2015), and Sherlock Holmes (2018). Traditionally the theme itself is a secret that is only revealed once the seniors arrive at the banquet. Students also ask each other to the banquet in creative and unique ways, and we have enjoyed seeing fun “askings” over the last few weeks.

Not only will JSB return this year, it will also be held in Harbor Hall for the first time. The juniors have been working hard on organizing the event for months, and have spent the last few days diligently decorating the hall with the theme of the night. The evening consists of dinner, entertainment by the Junior Class, tributes to each senior, lots of pictures, and a gift by which to remember the evening.

If you talk to any alumnus from Dalat, he or she will tell you in detail what the JSB was like for them as a senior, but then go into even greater detail telling you all about the JSB his or her class hosted as juniors. The event itself is full of memories that will last a lifetime. More importantly for the Junior Class, it also becomes an event that can have a positive impact on them for life. From my perspective, one of the best parts of the JSB is all the “Education for Life” that is happening as these young men and women work countless hours together, putting on an event that is about something more important than themselves. The proverbial 'blood, sweat, and tears' are shed to honor other students. The Junior Class works hard and the JSB becomes an event that bonds the students and class together. It is an accomplishment they can be proud of and something they will talk about at class reunions in the future. We can’t wait to see the culmination of the hard work this year’s juniors have put in for tonight’s event.

Have a Great Long Weekend!

COVID SOP Updates

 코로나 SOP 업데이트     提醒公告新冠 SOP更新

The Ministry of Health has released updated SOPs to take effect next week. We are excited to hear that:

  • Social distancing is no longer required
  • While masks must remain on while indoors, they can be taken off outdoors
  • Teachers can teach without masks

We are waiting for more information and clarity about how this will affect the rest of our school year. Please watch your emails from updates from principals for more information as it becomes available.

Annual Fund in Action

연간 기금 활동   年度基金在行动

Because technology has become an even greater part of our daily lives, it is important that we stay current with new emerging technologies arriving on the scene and prepare our students with the skills they’ll need for a successful future. Through your generous donations to the Annual Fund this year, we were able to purchase 8 new VEX 2 IQ Robotic Kits. Next year, we will continue to learn coding to operate this new technology. While building these robots in pairs, students learn how to collaborate and problem solve. Students will also boost their critical thinking and communication skills as they participate in robotic competitions that we are planning next year. These are important skills and technical abilities for all career paths, especially those in technology-related fields. We are excited to open up new, fun opportunities for students in the digital world! Thank you again for your support!

Introducing: Steinkamp Court

 스타인캠프 코트를 소개합니다    Steinkamp大厅的介绍

In honor of departing Head of School, Karl Steinkamp, Dalat’s gymnasium basketball court has been officially named “Steinkamp Court.” During a staff farewell celebration for Mr. & Mrs. Steinkamp, Dalat Athletic Director J.J. Davis unveiled a sign in the main gymnasium with this new name.

During the last 20 years, Mr. Steinkamp has coached approximately 29 different basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams – from elementary to high school varsity. His high school varsity teams won 4 state titles in the MSSPP (Majlis Sukan Sekolah Pulau Pinang) league, and had 3 finals appearances at ACSC (Asia Christian Schools Conference) tournaments. His “Education for Life” initiative has left a legacy both inside and outside the classroom. On behalf of the student athletes from 1993 to the present, we thank you, Mr. Steinkamp, for impacting so many lives through sports.

HS Service Hours Completion Deadline

5월 15일- 고등학생 필수 봉사 시간 완료 마감일

 五月十五日—完成高中部所需毕业服务时间的截止日期

Making an impact in the community is an important belief at Dalat International School. During the school year, each of our high school students complete at least 10 hours of community service. These projects include volunteering at church, waiting tables, serving a neighbor, beach clean-up, helping someone move, and more. 50% of our high schoolers have already finished their service hours for the school year. Please applaud your students on their acts of kindness, and encourage those who have yet to finish their hours to do so by May 15.  Please ask your child to check his/her Track-It-Forward account to make sure his/her hours are accurately recorded. Questions or comments? Mr. Abdulla is here to help.
