NEWS AND EVENTS

Annual Meetings

Earlier in the week we held our two annual meetings. I am delighted to announce that our two churchwardens for the coming year are Katie Spensley and Kevin Hargin. Please pray for Katie and Kevin and their families as they serve in this leadership role in the year ahead. As there was no election this time, I am also very pleased to let you know that Dominic Clark, Rob Kingdom and Pam Orna-Ornstein were appointed as members of the church council (PCC). Do pray for them and for our whole PCC as it begins a new year. A list of our PCC members is available on the church website under Resources/Church Governance.

Some sad news

As I announced at Monday's APCM, I am sorry to let you know the sad news that Jonny Payne (our Youth Pastor since 2017) will be stepping down at the beginning of May. Ministry can be exhausting and Jonny shared the news with the staff team on Monday that over the last months he has been struggling with energy and is no longer able to deliver his vision for the young people here at All Saints. I am enormously grateful to Jonny for all he has done during his time here. His godliness, prayerfulness and love for the young people are outstanding and I have no doubt that he will serve the Lord in ministry in the future. Please pray for Jonny, Carmen and Eleanor as they seek the next steps and please pray for our young people. We will have a chance to say thank you to them between our morning services this week and after Cornerstone. If you would like to contribute to a leaving gift for them, you can do so by:
  • bank transfer: Parochial Church Council of Lindfield; acct no. 20623474; sort code 20-49-76; reference: 'PAYNES'
  • credit/debit card on Churchsuite, selecting 'PAYNES' from the the drop-down list of funds
  • cheque ('All Saints Church Lindfield') or cash, marked, 'PAYNES - Confidential - For attention of Treasurer'
(Please pass on any gifts by Monday 16th May).

Daytime bereavement support group

A small support group of six weekly sessions will start on Wednesday 4 May, in the Stable building at 10.00–11.30am. If you have been bereaved and feel ready to gently explore the bereavement journey alongside other bereaved people, then this course may be helpful. The sixth and final session is optional. The course is not suitable for people very recently bereaved and in individual counselling. To book telephone the church office on 482405 or or via the church website with this link: Bereavement Course (Wednesdays) (04-May-2022) · ChurchSuite Events .

Discipleship Explored

A new course for new (or refreshing) Christians is starting this term. Discipleship Explored is a course, led by Bob and Janet Harrison on Zoom, helping you learn what it looks like to follow Jesus today. This eight-session journey through Paul’s letter to the Philippians is ideal for believers at any stage of the Christian life. It features brand-new documentary-style films and inspiring real-life stories from around the world, Bible studies and weekly reading plans.

If you'd like to join, please sign up here:

The course will run on Thursdays, 8.00–9.30pm on Zoom. Starting on Thursday 5 May.

Dads’ meet up

Next weekend is the All Saints Women's Weekend Away, so if you are a dad looking for some company with your children, you are really welcome to meet up for a picnic in Finches Gardens on Saturday 7 May at 12noon. The large green is right out the front of our house, and there's plenty of space of space to play. Please bring a blanket to sit on and whatever you want to eat; I can do tea/coffee/squash. We also have footballs, Frisbees, toys (and a toilet!)  Ping me an email if you're thinking of coming, or just turn up.  Stuart Silk (stuart.silk@lindfield.info)

Village Day

We are hoping to have a stall at Village Day on Saturday 4 June. It is a busy weekend coinciding with the Queen's Jubilee, Pentecost, the Bank Holiday and the Big Church Day Out and many will be away. If you are available to man the stall for an hour or two, that would be terrific. Please could you let the church office know.

Sermon Series

On Sunday we will resume our sermon series on Exodus (mornings); Connect Group questions will be available each week on this series. On Sunday evening we begin a short thematic series: 'The Life of God', which is loosely based on the excellent book, Enjoying God by Tim Chester. Whether or not you usually come to the evening service, the book is well worth a read and is available from all good bookshops, including: https://www.10ofthose.com/uk/products/23920/enjoying-god

Churchwardens’ Discretionary Fund

You may be aware we have a Churchwardens’ Discretionary Fund which is available to provide short-term financial help to members of our church family who are in need. We are aware that with increased costs of living at present there may well people who would benefit.
Thanks to kind donations from our church family we are in a position to offer donations, so if you are struggling or need any assistance at this time please don’t hesitate to contact us in confidence. Please do approach one of the Churchwardens or any of the clergy or pastoral team.

Operation Mobilisation (OM) Ukraine Emergency Appeal

Thank you to all who have given generously to the OM appeal. In recent weeks OM have assisted more than 100,000 refugees; helping with food, transport and temporary shelter. Safe spaces have been set up at busy border crossings with Poland, including comfortable trailers to care for vulnerable women and children. These are a lifeline for families that have endured long and stressful journeys. Permission was granted to set up a circus tent on the border between Ukraine and Moldova to serve those standing in the long queues for immigration. This provides a place to eat, drink, rest and recharge mobile phones.
Please continue to pray for this work, particularly for OM workers actually in Ukraine as they face many risks each time they leave their homes.
If you would like to have a copy of OM’s latest report please contact Ron Goodenough (01444 417002 or rongoodenough@outlook.com).
Donations to the OM appeal can be make on-line (https://www.uk.om.org/appeal/ukraine-in-crisis) or by putting your gift in an envelope marked ‘Ukraine’ and placing in the offertory.

MISSION
Mission Partner Focus: South Rwenzori Diocese and Kagando Hospital: Uganda

Kagando Hospital lies within the South Rwenzori Diocese of Uganda and close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo where increased insurgency has resulted in refugees from Congo crossing the border into Uganda, while at the same time Ugandan government funds supporting the Diocese and the Hospital are diminishing as the country comes out of lockdown.

As we pray for the Diocese – working under new governmental requirements:

  • Give thanks for the warm response to the refugees’ plight by a community already experiencing shortages and ask for peace in the Congo
  • Pray that God will raise up suitable new leaders to fill the many gaps left by teachers who were overseeing parishes but are now required to return to their full-time teaching posts
  • Pray for a training conference for clergy and lay readers from 8–12 May with the aim of refreshing and encouraging them for the work of their ministries.

As we pray for Kagando Hospital – also working under new governmental requirements:

  • Give thanks for the wise leadership of Canon Uzziah and his Board of Governors as they are faced with the withdrawal of 1/4 of all hospital staff who are centrally funded by the Ugandan Government
  • Pray for understanding and good communication between staff and management as the hospital finds ways of making up for the deficit in numbers.
  • Continue to pray for funding for the on-going Hydro-electric project which will provide for the energy needs of the hospital and community

Above all – Praise God for all that He has accomplished in this corner of Uganda and ask that He will be glorified in all that is to come.
