News & Notes

Greetings, UVCB,

Our Band truly needs help in the Business Management department.  Specifically, we need one person to be in overall charge, and at least one other person to assist that leader.

When we met last November at the First Congregational Church in Lebanon, our “meeting without instruments,” we resolved on three course changes as a Band.  We have been thrilled to note that two of those – resetting our organizational culture and resuming playing music – have been accomplished.  The third – reconstituting our Business Manager function formerly performed by Sarah Chamberlin – has not occurred yet.

Recall that we observed Sarah had done a tremendous job, too grand in fact for any one of us to take on single-handedly.  We agreed that whoever stepped up would be ably assisted by one or more fellow volunteer Band members.

That time has come.  In fact, it’s overdue as summer gig invitations have been flowing our way for the past couple months.  Presently, several Board members are fielding inquiries and arranging for a half-dozen performances in the next couple months, but our UVCB business management needs a single individual in overall command, so we don’t run aground (e.g., have several people make conflicting commitments).   And we also need at least one other person to work with that “in charge” individual.  Ideally the two or three of you know one another and can work well together.  The overall “in charge” person will be meeting with the UVCB Board (and likely become an ex-officio Board member), reporting to your Board on business issues.

From my initial experience, the Business Management function seems busier in late spring and early summer as towns and organizations look to hire performances around their planned events, and that work is well underway.  I suspect there is less to do the rest of the year, apart from arranging for winter and spring concerts when we resume them.

After conferring among yourselves, will one or more of you please contact me by email (mark.nunlist@dartmouth.edu) with your proposed Business Management team?  I will share your nomination(s) with the entire Board, and we will do our best to bring you up to speed on current business matters.

Thank you all in advance,
Mark
