Fixing a kitchen faucet drip or leak

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family safe and well. I spent some time repairing several leaks at my kitchen faucet this month. The kitchen faucet, more than any other in the house, gets more use and abuse. If you find that you have to shut it down for repairs you will find how important it is that it operates properly. My particular kitchen faucet was leaking at the cartridge handle and the spigot joint. This involved turning off the supply and disassembling the various parts. In the past I have replaced a leaking cartridge but I can also use plumbers silicon to lubricate the moving parts and create a good seal. The plumbers silicon lubrication work well even with hot water connections. Almost every house (unless brand new), will eventually have a leak of some sort at the kitchen sink. This will either be a supply or drain issue.  So, as a home owner, you should expect to perform a repair of this type. If you do call in a professional, I recommend you be present to witness the repair to learn how it is done. Often, a professional, will be glad to show you how it is repaired.

April Maintenance Tip

"It is time to test your water heater temperature pressure relief valve and replace your furnace filter. Those with a sump pump should test the system as well by pouring a 5 gallon bucket of water into the the well."
