Everything you need to know about Graduation Week 2022

Finlandia’s Spring 2022 Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies will be held on Sunday, May 1. Here’s a complete run-down of when and where everything is happening.

BACCALAUREATE

On Sunday, May 1, all graduates are invited to Baccalaureate Worship at the Chapel of St. Matthew at 10:00 a.m. prior to Commencement at 1:30 p.m. This is a service of prayer and blessing, specifically for this graduating class. Graduating seniors are invited to attend. The service will also be streaming live on Finlandia University’s YouTube channel or finlandia.edu/graduation.

COMMENCEMENT

Finlandia University’s 2022 Spring Commencement will take place on Sunday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m. in the Hirvonen Hall Auditorium (formerly the Hancock Public Schools Building). The event will be livestreamed and recorded for family viewing. The livestream will be available on Finlandia University’s YouTube channel or finlandia.edu/graduation.

Commencement speakers will include Vance Blackfox, director of Indigenous Ministries and Tribal Relations for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and the 2022 Student Representative, Arty Puntus.

Finlandia College of Health Sciences announces plans for Towsley Foundation Grant

Since 1998, the Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation has partnered with Finlandia University in providing instrumental funding toward technology and equipment. The Foundation’s most recent expression came as a five-year $220,000 grant to provide a robust, state-of-the-art healthcare education for FinnU College of Health Sciences students at their new facility.

Local students looking forward to next FinnU Shark Day

Taking a spin on the hit TV show “Shark Tank”, Finlandia University held its inaugural FinnU Shark Day on Wednesday, March 9 with more than 60 high school students from L’anse, Baraga Area and Calumet in attendance. Students competed for the chance to win a $2,500 scholarship in the first event of its type on Finlandia’s campus.

130 honored on Fall 2021 Dean’s and Honors List

Finlandia University is proud to announce its Fall 2021 semester Dean’s and Honors List Students. In total 130 students earned honors, including 88 who earned Dean’s List honors for having a grade point average of 3.75 or above.

To be eligible for either list students must have completed 12 or more credits and had no grade below a “C.” Dean’s List students earned a GPA of 3.75 or above, while Honors List students had a GPA between 3.50 and 3.749. Virtanen's research featured in three PBS world premieres

On Sunday, March 13, the world premiere of three documentary films featuring the research and production-related work of Finnish & Nordic Studies Professor Hilary-Joy Virtanen will take place on PBS station WNMU-TV Marquette as part of their Festival! 22 pledge programming.

These three films result from a collaboration between Virtanen, film director and sociology professor Michael Loukinen (NMU), and videographers Kristin Ojaniemi and Alex Maier. Funded by a generous grant from the American Scandinavian Foundation in New York City, [...]

MSOC Commit Eduardo Gonzalez 22 Eduardo Gonzalez (Hidalgo, Texas) has committed to play for the Finlandia University men's soccer team. He is planning on majoring in Sports Management.

Escanaba’s Smale Set To Play For Finlandia

MBB Commit Connor Smale 22-23 Connor Smale (Escanaba, Mich.) has committed to play for the Finlandia University men's basketball team. He is planning on majoring in PTA.

Soliz Set To Play For Finlandia

SB Commit Lacy Soliz 23 Lacy Soliz (Austin, Texas) has committed to play for the Finlandia University Softball team. She is planning on majoring in Sports Management.

Lions Close Out Series With Warhawks

BASE Jacob Mead UW-La Crosse 2021 Sophomore Jordan D'Angelo had three hits as the Finlandia University baseball team (3-27, 0-20 WIAC) lost 13-1 (7 Innings) and 14-4 (7 Innings) to #10 UW-Whitewater (23-6, 15-3 WIAC), Sunday afternoon at Prucha Field at Jim Miller Stadium.
