Finlandia’s Spring 2022 Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies will be held on Sunday, May 1. Here’s a complete run-down of when and where everything is happening.
BACCALAUREATE
On Sunday, May 1, all graduates are invited to Baccalaureate Worship at the Chapel of St. Matthew at 10:00 a.m. prior to Commencement at 1:30 p.m. This is a service of prayer and blessing, specifically for this graduating class. Graduating seniors are invited to attend. The service will also be streaming live on Finlandia University’s YouTube channel or finlandia.edu/graduation.
COMMENCEMENT
Finlandia University’s 2022 Spring Commencement will take place on Sunday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m. in the Hirvonen Hall Auditorium (formerly the Hancock Public Schools Building). The event will be livestreamed and recorded for family viewing. The livestream will be available on Finlandia University’s YouTube channel or finlandia.edu/graduation.
Commencement speakers will include Vance Blackfox, director of Indigenous Ministries and Tribal Relations for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and the 2022 Student Representative, Arty Puntus.

Since 1998, the Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation has partnered with Finlandia University in providing instrumental funding toward technology and equipment. The Foundation’s most recent expression came as a five-year $220,000 grant to provide a robust, state-of-the-art healthcare education for FinnU College of Health Sciences students at their new facility.

Taking a spin on the hit TV show “Shark Tank”, Finlandia University held its inaugural FinnU Shark Day on Wednesday, March 9 with more than 60 high school students from L’anse, Baraga Area and Calumet in attendance. Students competed for the chance to win a $2,500 scholarship in the first event of its type on Finlandia’s campus.

Finlandia University is proud to announce its Fall 2021 semester Dean’s and Honors List Students. In total 130 students earned honors, including 88 who earned Dean’s List honors for having a grade point average of 3.75 or above.

On Sunday, March 13, the world premiere of three documentary films featuring the research and production-related work of Finnish & Nordic Studies Professor Hilary-Joy Virtanen will take place on PBS station WNMU-TV Marquette as part of their Festival! 22 pledge programming.
