Seeking Student Sustainability Leaders

The Office of Sustainability is seeking students who are interested in being involved in making campus more sustainable. Students who can contribute to the diversity of the programs are encouraged to apply. Check out these two opportunities:

  • The Eco-Reps Program cultivates environmental responsibility by training student leaders to promote sustainable practices at the university and encourage environmentally responsible behaviors among peers, specifically within the Residence Halls. We're currently hiring students who will be living on campus next year. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the positions are open until filled.
  • The Socially Responsible Investing Advisory Council (SRIAC) is looking for graduate and undergraduate student representatives to join the group for the upcoming school year. SRIAC works on issues related to socially responsible investing and also administers the Sustainable Campus Fund. The position is not paid but is a rare opportunity for students to learn about a university at the highest levels of leadership. Applications are due by end of day 5/8.
Already have plans for next year? Then take a minute now to contribute to the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan, which will outline sustainability goals for UVM. The working group welcomes your input via this brief survey where you can also enter to win a $25 giftcard to the Bookstore.

Move Out

Full-scale on-campus student move out is back! For the past two years we scaled back our student move out operation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But UVM Zero Waste will be collecting donations in residence halls this May prior to students moving out of their buildings. In addition, the traditional "Take It or Leave It" areas will be set up outside the residence halls.

And if you're moving out of your off-campus rental, it is important to have a plan with your roommates and landlord. Here are a few tips and resources to make the process as smooth as possible:OSCR Move Out Tips

Hammock Responsibly

This time of year students are seen hammocking across UVM greens. So how can you hammock responsibly?

  • Choose two trees about 12-15 feet apart with trunk diameters at least 12" wide at 5 feet up from the ground. If you can visibly shake the tree trunk, don’t hammock on it!
  • Use protective hammock straps.
  • Choose trees without any branches lower than 6 feet up on the trunk so the straps don't rub on them after the hammock is hung.
