-Kevin Hines Mental Health Event at Rice Lake High School

Community Connections to Prosperity is excited to bring Kevin Hines to the Rice Lake High School on May 3.

Two years after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (at 19 years of age), he attempted to take his own life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Kevin is one of only thirty-four (less than 1%) to survive the fall and he is the only Golden Gate Bridge jump survivor who is actively spreading the message of living mentally healthy around the globe. Come and hear his story and what you can do to support those in your community who may be struggling.

Mental health resources and service agencies will be available starting at 6:30 pm.

Thank you to the Ed Saffert Suicide Prevention Foundation for sponsoring this great FREE event.

-Next Wednesday, May 4 is “Walk or Bike to School Day”.  St. Joseph students and parents who want to join this event should gather at Tate Park (behind Dairy Queen) at 7:15 a.m.  We will leave Tate Park at 7:30 a.m. and walk or bike down the Wild Rivers State Trail to school.  This is a weather dependent event.  If it is raining, the event will be canceled.

-In the Catholic Church, the month of May is dedicated to Mary as the Mother of God and the Mother of the Church.  At our Mass next Friday, we will have a May Crowning ceremony to honor Mary.  Friday is also Grandparents Day.  We hope many Grandparents and “Grand-friends” can join us for Mass, classroom activities, and lunch.

Thank you for your support of St. Joseph School.

Jerry Van Dyke, Principal

We hope that if we start gathering again for daily prayer that the weather will improve! Join us each day at 3 PM, before you pick up your children from school, to pray for our students, families, and teachers. All are welcome to join us in front of St. Joseph Church in the grassy area/sidewalk for a short moment of prayer.
Congratulations to these students who will make their First Communion this weekend.

What is May Crowning?
(SOURCE: versonministries.com/blog/may-crowning)
"At its simplest, May Crowning is a ritual celebrated in the month of May where an image or statue of Mary is crowned with a wreath of flowers and honored as the Queen of Heaven and the Mother of God. But this simple ceremony carries deep meaning for the Catholic faith.

While Mary the Mother of God is revered and celebrated all year long, May is a special month to celebrate the “Queen of Heaven.”

May has been Mary’s month since the medieval period, when May was considered the end of winter and the start of a new season of growth. It’s a time for new beginnings and the chance to begin with gratitude and devotion."

Our SJS 2nd-grade students are a part of the celebration of our May Crowning Mass because they are now receiving their first communion. The students will come to Mass wearing their first communion outfit (white typically). It is a beautiful celebration. We hope you join us!
