President’s Quarterly Report

President’s First Quarter Report: January to March 2022.

Happy Spring NNFC Community!

We have just finished our first quarter of 2022 and although Jan.-March is typically our slow season, we were able to stay in the black and were able to kick off some amazing new programs and events! Cathy has been working very hard to obtain our new spirits license and has continued adding to our amazing and expanding liquor department. She has also teamed up with a few of our associates and board members to put together and submit a Healthy Foods grant application that we will hear back on in May. If you haven’t yet heard about our new Kid’s Backpack Program, please go online or stop into the co-op for more information. The Co-op is more dedicated than ever to helping fight childhood hunger and food insecurity in our community and we are able to do that with the support of our members. On top of launching our Backpack Program, we have also started participating in Ironwood’s First Friday events and have started holding monthly classes. It is safe to say that there is always something going on at the Co-op! Please make sure you are staying up to date on our events schedule by following us on Facebook and Instagram. You won’t want to miss the amazing events we have in store for the summer!

Reminder to all Co-op members, Board meetings are held every 3rd Tuesday of the month and are open to any members that would like to join us! We also are encouraging all members who would like to help the Co-op to join one of our amazing sub committees. The current sub committees are Financial, Marketing/Outreach, Future Planning and Facilities. Please consider lending us some of your time and experience in any of those fields!

Manager’s Report

Spring is in the air and we are nearing the end of our slow season.  The skiers have left and the summer tourism has not yet begun, but that has left us time to plan for many exciting things in the months ahead!

We are eager to announce that we will be participating as a vendor this Summer in the Ironwood Depot Farmer’s Market!  The Farmers Markets are held every Friday from 4-6pm at the Depot Park starting in July.  However for First Fridays, the Farmers Market will team up with First Friday events and be held in City Square from 4-7pm.  I have been coordinating with local farmers and gardeners to grow produce for us, so we will be providing as much locally grown produce as possible to the community at the Farmers market AND in store.

Another thing we are proud to be a part of is Ironwood’s Second Annual Pride Picnic in the Park.  There will be various activities June 10th-12th, with the bulk of festivities happening on Saturday the 11th from 12:30-5pm.  There will be live music, vendors, crafts, art activities, free food and more.  Stop by and say hi to us, we’ll be selling some brand new Co-op merchandise at the event!  Check our Facebook events page to stay current on the Pride event schedule.

If you haven’t already heard about our Co-op Kids Account, check out the details in this newsletter.  We are grateful to be able to play a small role in helping with food insecurities.  If you know kids and families who can utilize this program, please send them our way.  If you are interested and able to donate to the account with cash or your member loyalty points, we appreciate the support from those who are able.  This is a great community effort and this program wouldn’t exist without the support of you!

As many may have already noticed, a new addition to the co-op is that we have obtained a liquor license.  Though we do not plan to carry a large array of liquor, we do want to cater to those interested in unique, regional, and mindfully made spirits.  We are also excited that as a part of the downtown First Friday series, we will continue to offer our monthly wine and tea tasting, as well as a snack or activity.  This has turned into a very popular event and fun for the whole family so don’t forget to visit us the First Friday of each month between 4-7pm to see what tastings and fun things are going on!

One final thing I am happy to share is that you will be seeing a little more of Graham in the store in the months ahead.  With so many great things in the works, Graham and I will be sharing the weight load of running the co-op.  With both of our expertise, differing areas of interest, and shared visions, I have no doubt we can continue to grow the co-op in new and exciting ways.

As always, thanks to all of you for being a part of the co-op and supporting us.  It says something about our community to be able to sustain a co-op and we wouldn’t be here without all of you.

Much Love,

Cathy

Warm Spring Greetings Co-op Community!

With so many wonderful new events and programs coming to Northwind it’s important we remain financially diligent in making our decisions, and I’m very happy to say that we were able to stay in the black even during our slow season! We have undertaken many new projects and with that comes the upfront costs, but with the amazing work of our co-op team we are already starting to see those programs pay off and succeed! Rozina Doss, our brilliant bookkeeper, has put together a pie chart of our sales to help give a visual of which departments can grow and where we are seeing great success. On a personnel note, we have said good-bye to our current Treasurer Tracy Trusdell and we are in the process of training our new Treasurer Keri DeRosso. We are very excited for Keri stepping into this role and very grateful to, again our brilliant bookkeeper Rozina, for stepping up to assist in the transition and in making sure all financial documents were taken care of. What an amazing team we have!
