CP&PD Newsletter
Humanities & Social Sciences

It's been a chilly but busy spring! This semester, we here at CP&PD ran 18 online events, including 3 alumni panels, 3 company info sessions, and 7 career workshops.

This was also the pilot year for our International Students Group. It was wonderful to get to gather virtually with so many students across disciplines, to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from each other. Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

And even though the semester is winding down, you can still connect with us over the summer. Current GC students can sign up for career advisement appointments using GC Connect

Have a wonderful summer, and see you in the fall!

4 Tips for Identifying an Employer’s Work-Life Balance

In this piece from the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC), microbiologist and consultant Dr. Ada Hagan suggests several ways to determine a potential employer's work-life balance, from reading up on their policies (especially institutional and departmental code(s) of conduct or ethics) to evaluating the physical workplace and its evidence of a life outside of work. She also suggests seeking out this information through an informational interview: day-to-day expectations, management styles, and support during the pandemic could all yield valuable information about the work-life balance at your potential employer.
