Hi Friends,

There are some incredible deals to be had in our virtual auction, but hurry - bidding closes this Friday at midnight.

We are still excited about the expiration of PG&E's license to operate the Potter Valley Project last month. The process to remove the Eel River dams is now unfolding. To continue the excitement, check out the latest blog in our series Sifting Through the Studies.

Last month we wrote about the abundant cold-water habitat behind Scott dam just waiting for salmon and steelhead. The Eel's upper basin habitat is some of the best in the entire watershed, but don't just take our word for it! Click here to read our summary of the latest research from the National Marine Fisheries Service.

This month's blog is a look to the future and what Scott dam removal might actually look like. Will there be a big explosion? Will someone need to haul away all that sediment trapped behind the dam? How long will it take? We answer all these questions and more in Sifting Through the Studies: Scott Dam Removal.

And finally, in case you missed the big news, we filed a notice of intent to sue PG&E for violations of the Endangered Species Act. We won't stand by and allow PG&E to drag their feet on dam removal while their project continues to kill and otherwise harm the Eel's spectacular wild fish. For more information you can read our press release here, or click here to watch our press conference.

This potential litigation could be a game-changer for the Eel River, and set important precedent for protecting endangered species across the nation. But it is a huge undertaking, and expensive! Please consider supporting this important work with a donation today.

Sifting Through the Studies: Scott Dam Removal

When dams are removed, a variety of experts from engineers to hydrologists and biologists develop plans to minimize negative impacts on aquatic life. When PG&E’s license for the Potter Valley Project on the Eel River expired last month, that began the decommissioning process which will ultimately lead to dam removal.
