School Newsletter
22nd April 2022

Dear Parents, Staff and Caregivers,

It is our great pleasure to announce that classes for all students in Small World Christian Kindergarten will officially resume on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022. We thank you for your encouragement and support as we prayerfully waited for the Education Bureau to consider our application for whole school resumption.  Today, we received news that the Education Bureau has approved our application for classes to resume early, unstaggered, and for all levels next week. With the coming week’s whole school resumption, our series of pre-planned ‘Wave Hello’ will be cancelled as classes will finally resume for all learners. Likewise, we wanted to assure our families who are currently overseas that your child will continue to receive online class learning through our usual platform, on Zoom and Tapestry. Similarly, for parents who are not comfortable sending their children to school next week, kindly contact me or your class teachers as we prepare a hybrid mode (or mixed-mode) in our learning provision.

In order to facilitate a smooth and safe transition for our learners, kindly ensure that you submit your child’s Student Vaccination Status and Travel History Declaration Form prior to the start of school next week. Likewise, to keep our community safe in school, the government has required all students and staff to conduct daily temperature checks and Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) before coming to school. To facilitate safe passage through our school premises, kindly record the results online using the Small World Temperature and Rapid-Antigen Test (RAT) Record on or before 8.30 AM for the morning session and 12.30 PM for the afternoon session. If your child tested positive, please keep him or her at home, inform the school and the CHP. Students who recovered from COVID-19 are not required to conduct the RAT within 90 days after he/she contracted the virus. However, you are required to indicate this on the same online form, including his or her temperature. We thank you for your kind understanding and support during this time.

What a joy to welcome our Senior Kindergarten, Dolphin and Jellyfish, learners back to our Small World this week for their Wave Hello! The school was once again filled with excitement, chatter, and laughter as the children settled easily into their routine, playfully explored together in class and in the garden, conversed and shared stories with their friends and teachers, and many more. The school is joyfully transformed with the playful presence and happy voices of our young learners- we are very blessed to have them back  on campus looking healthy and well-developed!

Pathway to School Resumption

We are thankful to have a clear roadmap as we prepare for the whole school resumption, and are so excited to see the children face-to-face on Tuesday, May 3rd. We want to assure all of our community that we remain dedicated to ensuring that our school campus is a safe and healthy learning environment for our children, and that our social distancing, hygiene, and ventilation protocols will be in place for the protection of our community.

Health and Safety Guidelines

In preparation for the On-campus School Learning resumption, please read the following carefully:

  1. Please read through this “Health Precautions for Resumption of On Campus School Learning” document carefully in preparation for coming back to school.

  2. Please fill in a Student Vaccination Status and Travel History Declaration Form before your child will return on campus.

  3. Kindly monitor your child/ren’s temperature and Rapid-Antigen Test (RAT) daily before coming to school, making sure to record his/her temperature and result on the online Small World Temperature and Rapid-Antigen Test (RAT) Record

  4. For our new students who are coming on-campus for the first time, please refer to “Preparation for On Campus School Learning” for a list of student supplies and other information.
  5. Do your Part, Stand Apart
As part of our health and safety measure, we are encouraging our community to practise social distancing through our community slogan, “Do your Part, Stand Apart”. The personal learning goals of being “respectful” and “ethical” come into play as we engage the community to heed and support social distancing in school as well as in our city to fight against COVID-19. We have placed visuals in our school environment for learners to develop health and safety habits and spatial awareness. Likewise, we hope that you can transmit and extend these social distancing practices with your child outside your home.

Exploring Online Learning Initiatives at Small World

 Small World (Generations) Playgroup

Facilitated by our kindergarten and playgroup teachers, our online playgroup session was launched for the youngest learners in our care. Young children and their families are invited to spend an enjoyable time, participating and interacting with our wonderful team of teachers through songs, music and dance, storytelling and playful back-and-forth conversations. These online sessions will continue to run every Tuesday, from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM. If you and your friends have any pre-kindergarten aged children and are interested to join us—please register on this link.

Curious Bears

We are excited to take our Enriched Learning Programme - Curious Bears online via Zoom in Term 3. The children will participate in lots of fun STEM activities designed to provide opportunities for them to explore science, technology, engineering and maths learning through a range of projects. There will be learning activities developed to strengthen their literacy and phonics skills, as well as opportunities to deepen and expand their creative and physical well-being through dance, drama and creative arts. We invite you and your family to be part of "Curious Bears"!

Each class had their own rendition of the  IEYC Unit, Toy Shop’s Entry Point, which sparked interest and curiosity in the new topic. As children and teachers further explore the IEYC unit of learning, we would like to encourage our community of parents to help support the learner's curiosity and interest, for example, guiding children in toy designs or models, enabling or enhancing indoor and outdoor areas, such as the garden, mud kitchen play area, the playground, and indoor play provision, such as role play, etc. We continue to promote and strengthen learning links to provide children with meaningful experiences, encouraging them to follow their interests and curiosity about themselves, others and the world around them.

With the long weekend in the offing, enjoy the beautiful, sunny weather (don’t forget to apply your sunscreen!) in Hong Kong with your children and families, including your extended ones! I pray that you continue to keep safe and healthy, especially as our city emerges steadily from the recent health situation. My thoughts and prayers for every family in our Small World as we traverse a new season together- I’m very grateful for your kindness, patience, trust and continued support in our Small World! Enjoy every new beginning!

Prayerfully yours,

Tess Baguio
Principal
