Distribution 10 AM - 12 PM  Saturday, April 30, 2022
At La Trinidad UMC, Holy Communion for home use is distributed in pre-sealed "Celebration Cups" containing both the consecrated bread and grape-juice  We thank those who assist in delivering these elements to home-bound participants.  Celebration cups are also available following in-person worship to take to church participants at home or in hospital settings.   Communion kits can also be provided following the Sunday worship service.

Church Gym

Reopening Sunday June 12, 2022
The Capital Improvement of the Church Gymnasium is in the final stages of construction and finish-out.  As this stage involves sanding and finishing with clear urethane, we ask that all persons not associated with this project stay clear of this work area to prevent unintentional harm to the surface.

The Church Gym will officially reopen for church and community use on Sunday, June 12, 2022 with a special worship service, a capital improvements presentation in the church sanctuary, a ribbon cutting, and community meal.   Rev. Greg Hackett, Las Misiones District Superintendent will be our guest preacher.  Details on the cost of the meal and RSVP process will be available soon.
Thursday Prayer & Praise
La Trinidad UMC recently launched a new mid-week worship experience called Prayer & Praise.

Participants arrive at the church at 6:30 PM Thursdays prepared to request hymns from our four music resources, to share inspiring scriptures and testimonies, and to lead intercessory prayers for many needs.  The service alternates between a chosen hymn and spoken participation.  Individuals may also request the prayers of all in attendance.  The service is not planned in advance and is not recorded or broadcast.  Children and visitors are encouraged and welcome.
Family Nights - Sunday Evenings
La Trinidad UMC is developing a fellowship and activity night for families with children, youth, and young adults.  Activities vary from week to week both on-site and with group outings.

Volunteers are needed to prepare meals and help create program activities.  To volunteer to bring a meal or activity, please contact Rev. John or Rev. Raquel.

Family Nights are Sundays at 5 PM.

Family Night recently enjoyed an Earth Day (Sunday) event at Confluence Park.
Cooper at Navarro Lunch Bunch
With the restoration of the church gymnasium, La Trinidad UMC intends to resume its mid-week lunch and outreach with students attending Cooper Academy at Navarro.  This outreach includes a meal, Bible message, and time for conversation, fellowship and recreation.  Adults who are cleared by Safe Gatherings are needed to prepare lunches and help bring supervision while the pastors and Wesley Nurse spend time with the students.  To volunteer for this outreach, please contact Rev. John Feagins.  This ministry will resume in late August.
Safe Gatherings: Trusted Training
La Trinidad UMC is committed to appropriate relationships between all ministers, adult volunteers and those they serve, especially children, youth, and vulnerable adults.  All church volunteers and representative ministers working with children, youth, and vulnerable adults are required to complete Safe Gatherings training, background checks, and to demonstrate a historic pattern of compliance with Safe Gatherings practices and protocols.  Parents and non-volunteers are also encouraged to receive the training in order to extend a culture of compliance and safety throughout church life.

Safe Gatherings protocols are designed to use education, transparency, and accountability to protect all vulnerable persons we serve.  Outside groups and ministry partners serving vulnerable populations within the church facility are also expected to complete the Trusted training and comply with Safe Gatherings protocols.

COVID Safety and On-Site Activities
All Church activities are open to in-person participation including meals.  Many La Trinidad UMC church members have returned to on-site participation.  Local risk levels have declined dramatically, and to date, La Trinidad UMC has not traced a single instance of COVID infection to any on-site activity.

With respect for at-risk individuals, the the Church Council supports the continued use of enhanced hygiene and masks except when leading speaking, singing, or when eating to drinking at community meals.

Earth Month greetings
Our holy Scriptures begin with the Creator, companionship of humans and animals, God meeting them in the Garden, and humans caring for the Garden.  In Revelation 11:17-18, we receive this image of  the elders saying:

“Lord God All-Powerful,
you are and you were,
    and we thank you.
You used your great power
    and started ruling.
18  When the nations got angry,
    you became angry too!
Now the time has come
for the dead
    to be judged.
It is time for you to reward
    your servants the prophets
and all your people
who honor your name,
    no matter who they are.
It is time to destroy everyone
who has destroyed
    the earth.”

And somewhere in between, we as people of faith are living in the urban reality of people trashing the city where we live. How do we live our faith, proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and share hope in our situation?
We can share hope in support efforts of local leaders and work with them to care fir our neighborhoods.
Faced with overwhelming garbage in our local waterways, San Antonio River Authority has found a way for every resident to help its staff. To stop the overwhelming problem of pollution in our waterways, San Antonio River Authority is collecting data to learn what type of litter is washing into the creeks and rivers. Every community member can assist by doing what you already do--removing garbage wherever you see it--and pausing to take a photo and upload it to the database. During the few weeks since I joined the San Antonio River Challenge, I have been surprised how simple it is to use the Litterati app and help our local clean-up efforts. And I am encouraged when I see other people reporting data so that together we are creating a map to help cleanup efforts.

San Antonio River Authority hopes to use the data to stop pollution before it reaches the creeks and rivers in the future.
Here's how to help:
Download the free Litterati app and select San Antonio River Challenge.
Document the litter you pick up. By joining the San Antonio River Authority’s Litterati Challenge, your efforts to pick up trash will have a positive impact on area creeks and rivers and your Litterati observations will help establish sound data that can be used to better address trash issues at their source.

Information and links to download the Litterati app are at:

It's also time to celebrate!
As we observe Earth Month in April, please join me in thanking our Missions Committee members:
Esmeralda Mendoza
Marta Ek
Abigael Perales

Together, we look forward to coordinating the church's National Night Out event Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mark your calendars to get a tree that night and bring a neighbor, as San Antonio Parks and Recreation has graciously committed to give away 300 native trees at the event just at the best time of year to plant a tree in Texas!
I am deeply grateful to Esmeralda, Marta and Abigael for committing to this ongoing adventure with me!
