League volunteers have limited time. We get it. Here's what you need to know:
- Save the date: EFCL's Annual General Meeting is running on June 1. The meeting is a hybrid, meaning you can participate in-person or virtually.
- EFCL is hosting a partnership fair for Leagues, three mentorship cafes and a new board member Lunch and Learn over the next two weeks. See the rest of the newsletter for details or check out our events page.

Save the Date
Annual General Meeting, June 1
Join board members for conversations and networking – in person at Calder Community League Hall or virtually by Zoom. Your choice.
Learn about the new Community League Infrastructure Database and share ideas for Community League Day 2022.
Registration opens on Eventbrite on May 13. At that time you'll receive the meeting agenda and package. We'll send an email invitation to all board members.
IMPORTANT: Please identify one voting member (each League requires one) who will register as such. Any other board members should join as general members.
NOTE: The EFCL strongly encourages masks and will be allowing for social distancing in the hall.

Leagues Receive Funding
Canada recognizes value of community infra through fund
Eleven Community Leagues have received federal dollars aimed at improving community infrastructure – from sprayparks to rink repairs – as part of a $6.7 million investment announced last week at city hall.
As CTV reports, 11 Leagues receiving money as part of this are:
- Alberta Avenue, Belgravia, Blue Quill, Blackmud Creek, Crestwood, Eastwood, Millhurst, Parkview, The Ridge, Ridgewood, Woodvale.
As CTV also reports, "[t]he money is coming from the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), which will fund projects in other prairie cities as well."

Enabling Participation and Wellness
May 5, 6pm
With new opportunities opening up thanks to the Tripartite Agreement, organizations within Edmonton are looking to partner with and support your League’s programming and operations.
In this opportunities fair your League can connect with organizations interested in animating community spaces through programming and wellness opportunities. You can connect with folks from organizations such as:
- AdaptAbilites
- Art Hives
- Canadian Mental Health Association Recovery College
- Sage Seniors and Housing
- Free Play for Kids
This will be a virtual mixer held on Zoom.

Getting Your Board Organized Café
May 11, 6:30pm
How do you most effectively organize your League board? This Mentorship Café will discuss the role of secretaries and administrators in board governance.
Come prepared with or to find answers to:
- How to organize to ensure good decision making and governance
- What to do in your first six months
- Your templates and resources to share (they don’t have to be perfect)
What is the secretary and or administrator’s role in good decision making and good governance? Let’s debrief with League secretaries and administrators to look at Getting Your Board Organized.

Treasurers and Fundraisers Café
May 18, 6:30pm
Learn how other Community League members do what they do. Get together to share ideas, skills, resources and experiences to help each other succeed.
Meet EFCL’s new Fund Development Advisor Debbie Brown and learn:
- The ins and outs of fundraising for Leagues
- How to create a needs assessment when approaching funders
This café occurs three times this year – May 18, September 26 and November 30. Sign up for all, if you like.

Board Lunch and Learn
May 25, 12pm
An interactive training session for new League board members that contains everything you need to know in one hour. Come and get an overview of EFCL resources, the ins and outs of Community Leagues and what you need to know about board governance.

Communication Directors Café
May 26, 6:30pm
The topic for this café is: How to create public engagement surveys.
Leagues publicly engage with their neighbourhoods for input and to inform. In this session we will talk about:
- How to write a survey for public engagement
- How to know when a League should engage the public and best practices
- Strategies for getting surveys out to people and getting them to fill them out
Please bring examples of your League’s public engagement. We’ll share ideas, skills, resources and experiences to help each other succeed.

Leagues can create summer programming with FreePlay for Kids
Free Play for Kids wants to work with Community Leagues to offer summer programs that get kids moving right in their neighbourhood. They've put together a few options for Leagues to consider, with times and different sport offerings. Please review and connect with FreePlay directly if you have questions or are interested.

Hockey Fees Covered
Partnership sees costs covered for Hockey Edmonton
Leagues have helped so many kids connect to hockey over the past couple of years. Now the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and Kidsport have teamed up to cover all the registration and equipment costs for kids who want to play with Hockey Edmonton.
With rising costs, we all want to be sure that kids have the opportunity to play the games they enjoy. Pass along this opportunity.

We respectfully acknowledge the land upon which the EFCL operates is located on Treaty 6 Territory and has served a purpose as a traditional meeting ground for many First Nations groups. This territory has provided a traveling route and home to the Nakoda Sioux, and later, Blackfoot and Cree peoples, followed by Saulteaux and Métis and other Indigenous peoples.
