(Ages 11-14) Eastertide (Continued)
Leader: Susan Caldwell.
St. Mike’s has returned to offering communion in both kinds.
Wherever you are on your spiritual journey you are welcome to come forward to receive the consecrated wine and wafers. Wine will be served by our chalice bearers from the common cup. In keeping with the pandemic safety guidelines from our bishop, the communicant may drink from the chalice or, in the alternative, the priest will dip the wafer into the wine and place it directly on the communicant’s tongue. If you prefer not to have wine, simply cross your arms over your chest after receiving the wafer.
Candidate Applications: First Step
As a first step, applications from clergy interested in Saint Michael & All Angels are reviewed by the Diocesan Office of Transition Ministry (OTM). The OTM contacts their counterparts in the other Dioceses to make sure there are no “red flags” on any of the candidates. When the “red flag” check is complete, St. Michael’s Rector Search Committee will begin to receive packets of candidate applications to consider.
Once applications are received, the committee’s role changes radically. Formerly the committee was in the business of inviting as broadly and effectively as possible, and nothing it was doing was confidential. But from the moment the committee receives an application, it assumes the duty of safeguarding the identity of each applicant with trust and care. The reason for this seriousness is the harm that can come from leaks. Breaches of confidentiality, even small and innocent ones, have derailed search processes, divided congregations, betrayed candidates, and ruined careers.
When the committee starts to review actual applications from actual priests, they begin to prayerfully and deliberately discern whether one of the priests is called by God to serve Saint Michael & All Angels. The committee will continue keeping the congregation updated on where the process stands as things progress. In the meantime, please contact Mark Peterson if you have any questions for the Rector Search Committee.

WEBINAR Ethics in Thought Experiments
with Sarah Rosenson on Zoom
Thursdays in May at 1:00 pm (May 5, 12 and 19)
“In this interactive online discussion class, we will explore famous philosophical thought experiments and their practical applications. What does John Rawls’ “veil of ignorance” thought experiment teach us about how to set up a just society? How do philosophers Peter Singer and Onora O’Neill use thought experiments to raise the question of whether people in the developed world are doing enough to help those in the developing world?
Come join the conversation and don’t worry if any of the names are new to you - it will add to the fun of new discoveries!”

A Prayer for our Rector Search
Almighty God, giver of every good gift, grant us the guidance of your Holy Spirit as we seek a new Rector for Saint Michael and All Angels. Bless us with patience, courage, and foresight as you shepherd our parish family on this journey. Give us an open spirit, discerning hearts and clear minds, that we may trust your will for us. Raise up for us, we pray, a rector who will boldly proclaim your Gospel, faithfully administer your sacraments, and serve your people with love and compassion; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
COVID UPDATE as of February 15, 2022:
All worshipers who are fully vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks at indoor gatherings. However, if you are not vaccinated, please wear a mask as required by the state COVID guidelines. Masks are available at the entrance to the church. Thank you all for your help in keeping our church a safe place for those most vulnerable.
Share Your Joy
Through Flowers
We have a tradition of offering flowers at the altar on most Sundays. Members of the congregation sponsor altar flowers, chapel flowers, and the sanctuary light in thanksgiving for all the blessings of this life or in memory of loved ones.
Send your news items to the The Rev. Susan Pinkerton and Wayne Hastings. The deadline for inclusion is noon on Tuesday for that week's St. Mike's Messenger.
