MIKE'S BEER BEAT
New or notable, classic or quaffable, Mike is pouring a glass of it.

Beer: Double Dry-Hopped Mylar Bags
Variety: Imperial/Double IPA
ABV: 8.5%
Brewer: The Other Half

Mike Sez: OK, I promise next week no New York beer connection!

I happened upon this tasty, hazy hop bomb recently and felt I needed to elaborate. I bought a four-pack of 16-oz. cans at Norm’s Beer & Wine in Vienna, Virginia and I believe this beer was canned at The Other Half’s Washington, D.C. facility, which opened in 2020.

The brewery, which originally opened in 2014 in Brooklyn, now has brewing operations in Bloomfield, N.Y., Philadelphia  and taprooms in midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Buffalo. The Other Half took its already popular – and powerful – Imperial IPA and gave it a double dose of dry hopping, adding more hops and lupulin powder (made up of hop oils and acid) to add more aroma and a smooth flavor.

Conclusion: For me, music, like beer, is better with a bit of an edge. But DDH Mylar Bags is a rare hazy beer that I enjoy – kind of how that occasional pop song sounds sweet to the ears. Maybe procure some of this beer for the next time you cue up Adele or Olivia Rodrigo.
