Issue number 61  | 6 May 2022
Dear Fellow Rotarians and friends,

We are almost at the halfway mark of the year.  Soon changeovers will be taking place at Club and District levels to bring in a new team to the helm. This month is also significant with the Federal election taking place on Saturday 21 May.
Last week, we had Carol Skyring one of the Founding members of the Sydney Library of Things to talk about this new initiative at the Coal Loader Centre of Sustainability at Waverton. It is a not-for-profit service that provides the local community with access to a collection of extremely useful but only occasionally used items that can be loaned out for a short period of time.   The Library works through an annual membership fee and is run by volunteers and opened every Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm.  Do think of using this service when you next need a glue gun or a high-pressure water washer not forgetting the ice-cream maker or the food hydrator!

This week Melanie Lewis from the Social Impact Network and from Macquarie University Incubator gave an awesome talk on protecting the environment through social innovation, community engagement, and circular economy.  Melanie is also the District Environment officer and sees herself as a “climate solutionist” and hopes to make a difference in the world we live in.  We are very fortunate to have such dedicated individuals who are so passionate about climate change, finding solutions and creating positive change within the community.

Next week, we have the Nusa Tenggara Fundraising dinner at Lane Cove Golf Club on Monday, 9 May in place of our regular meeting on Tuesday 10 May.  The response to the dinner has been overwhelming and the organising committee had to turn away some guests and members due to limited capacity at the golf club.

May is also the month for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal and we have been asked to assist in their fundraising efforts.  Please spare a few hours in the roster if you can which runs from 23-29 May at the Canopy and Plaza.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all families “Happy Mother’s Day” and end with this inspirational quote from poet Kahil Gibran “Mother is the most beautiful word on the lips of mankind”.  Till then, everyone keep safe.
Regards,

Lalitha Warren
