President's Message

Dear colleague

It has been another very busy month at the BBA!

We have published the *9th* issue of The JBBA and the print copies have been sent worldwide to more than 100 countries around the globe!

Blockchain Associations Forum's 2nd Annual Summit will convene on 17 September. I look forward to welcoming blockchain and crypto associations from 50+ countries at the summit.

The Centre for Evidence Based Blockchain continues to expand with the addition of Equideum Health (formerly ConsenSys Health) as its latest institutional member.

We are appointing to various roles within the Sub-Specialty Groups of the UK's Blockchain Roadmap. I am particularly keen on exploring the societal impact of blockchain applications in the UK and beyond, so if you are interested in working with the BBA to establish evidence base to help the UK build solid DLT foundations, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Until next time,

Naseem

Professor Dr Naseem Naqvi FBBA
President, The BBA
Editor in Chief, The JBBA

* 9th ISSUE OF THE JBBA Published *
“Innovation devoid of responsibility and concern for future generations is probably misguided…”, says Professor Marc Pilkington, Associate Editor in Chief, introducing Volume 5, Issue 1 of The JBBA (May 2022)

“Tokenisation is redefining our individual and collective participation in the digitisation of the real world - but also, the very content of the Internet itself - how the latter is owned, and by whom. Yet patience and critical thinking remain paramount - The contours of Web 3.0 still need further epistemological investigation and scientific refinement.”

WHY THE WORLD NEEDS A “UNITED NATIONS” OF BLOCKCHAIN?

“..For a World that strives to become Citizen-centred, Blockchain holds the transformative potential to unite the nations together; such a trans-national alliance should link industries and the public sector, leading to blockchain outcomes that transcend national borders, while being optimised at the level of each individual country as a catalyst for future growth….”, says Dr Mureed Hussain FBBA.

BBA RECOMMENDATION REACHES PARLIAMENT
“The UK’s National Blockchain Roadmap (NBR) published in July last year made several recommendations to support the development of a British blockchain ecosystem.

“To this end, I have put down amendments to the Elections Bill that would require the Government to research the benefits of blockchain for both electronic voting and improving the security of the electoral register.”

- Lord Holmes of Richmond MBE
NATIONAL BLOCKCHAIN ROADMAP IN UK PARLIAMENT
Governments around the world have successfully explored the potential of blockchain in areas such as land registration (Georgia, UK, Sweden, India, South Africa), digital identity management (Switzerland, Estonia, Luxembourg), birth certificates (Brazil), immigration (Finland), organ donation and transplant (UAE) and taxation (China)”, said Lord Holmes of Richmond, putting down amendments to the UK Parliament, citing a recommendation from the UK’s National Blockchain Roadmap.
