News & Notes

Good morning, UVCB,

In our newsletter of two days ago we asked the active UVCB community to share your thoughts about rehearsing in the current Covid environment.  The link to the document (copied below) through which you can add your comments has been repaired so those of you who were not able to contribute should be able to do so now.

As of this writing, only four Band members have added their thoughts to the thread, accessible through the link in the note below. I have personally heard from two more, both of whom were in favor of continuing our rehearsals while maintaining current policies and shared care for one another.

We've only heard from perhaps 20% of our playing membership - and that's not enough.  If you have not already done so, please click on the link and add to our discussion.  Your comments contribute to strengthening our UVCB community, and only by hearing from most or all of us can Mark Nelson and our Board be confident our rehearsal management is respecting Band members' concerns.

There will be another newsletter later tomorrow (or perhaps Monday) announcing our intentions regarding a potential rehearsal this Monday evening.  Remember to please check your email a few hours before any planned rehearsal or UVCB event in case last minute events or conditions have necessitated a change in our schedule.  I apologize to those of you who arrived at OSLC last Monday only to find belatedly that we had cancelled that rehearsal.

Thank you all, and stay well,
Mark Nunlist,
President

PS - One very kind soul has also volunteered to help us with UVCB Business Management issues.  Trust me....that person cannot comfortably do the job alone, so the Board and I continue to ask for volunteers.  Thank you in advance.

(From our 4/28/22 newsletter)

Dear UVCB,

Last Monday, one of our members reported that she had tested positive for Covid-19, and another reported that she had recently spent time with a friend who had tested positive.  Another one of our members had tested positive a couple of weeks ago.

The Board celebrated the prompt and conscientious reporting of these episodes by those affected.  In sharing their information, and in self-quarantining, these colleagues acted to ensure the safety of everyone.  Moreover, the board was able to promptly notify other members that were seated in close proximity to those that were exposed to Covid19.  The system worked.

We are concerned about the recent increase in cases in Grafton County—now one of relatively few “Hot spots” on the New York Times’ map of the U.S.  We are all vaccinated and boosted; it seems that vaccinated people who contract the virus experience relatively mild flu-like symptoms.  Still—this is not a disease to be taken lightly.  We are willing to continue our rehearsals, but we think it important that we have a band-wide conversation about this.  How do you all feel?

Towards this end, we have created a Google Document to which you may all contribute.  Here is the link to that document.  We welcome your thoughts about rehearsing in the current environment.  Are you game to go forward?  Are you hesitant?  What are your concerns?  What are your hopes?!  What concrete steps would you like to see us take as we move forward?

Please contribute to this conversation!  And please include your name in your comments.

            Thanks very much.

Warm regards,
Mark Nelson, Mark Nunlist, and the UVCB Board
