CALL FOR APPLICATION

The Montpellier Advanced Knowledge Institute on Transitions (MAK’IT) under "Montpellier University of Excellence" launched its 2023 COHORT call for application. 

The proposed theme "What roles for science in crisis time? Outlook in the Health, Environent, and Agriculture interconnected areas." will bring together international researchers from various discplinary backgrounds and focus on the theme's impact on health, environmental and agricultural transitions towards sustainable development, through innovative and creative approaches related to controversies.

MARCH HIGHLIGHTS

MYTHESIS IN 180 SECONDS 
The highlight of Le Mois De La Francophonie "My thesis in 180 seconds" also known as MT180, took place on the 16th March 2022 at Alliance Francaise . 7 participants took stage to expound on their various concepts in French to the Jury as well as the audience in 180 seconds.

The first prize went to Ms Ahouefa Katte with the title  "Performance prediction of palm kernel shell concrete with oil palm waste ash nanoparticles"

Ms Sarah Wallace came in second with "Creative writing within the confines of the short story genre: an investigation of the persuasive potential of rhetoric at the edges of pathetic appeal"

The third prize went to Ms Jacqueline Kandagor with "School Discourse Analysis: Ideology and Civic Values in Selected French as a Foreign Language Textbooks in Kenya"

The jury was represented by 5 members:
Dr. Viola J Kosgei: AFRAKEN Chair and Professor of Biochemistry at Moi University Eldoret.
Mr Elijah Muga: AFRAKEN PR and Communications Expert.
Mr Mathieu Guerin: Embassy of France in Kenya Attache for Scientific and University cooperation.
Mr Vincent Abt: French National Research institute for sustainable development (IRD) member.
Mr. Dominique Dumet: Agricultural and Food Counsellor For East Africa and the Indian Ocean.  

Amongst the audience was Ms. Milcah Chokah: AUF referent in Kenya, the French club La Pléiade of Kenyatta University and the vice consul of Cameroon in Kenya.

Social Affairs Sub Committee (SASC)/ Promotional Affairs Sub Committee (PASC)

AFRAKEN SOCIAL AFTERWORKS 

The first social afterworks session organized  by AFRAKEN Socials Sub Committee (SASC) under Ms Bauwa Alambo and AFRAKEN Promotions Sub Committee (PASC) for the 27th April 2022 at Pallet Cafe Nairobi was attended by AFRAKEN Members, Campus France, Science Po and Embassy of France in Kenya . This was the first meet and greet session after the Government of Kenya lifted the imposed physical meeting restrictions.  AFRAKEN members also took the opportunity to celebrate Ms Clara Galea as she completes her tenure as Campus France Manager in Kenya in May.

AFRAKEN GRANT WRITING WEBINAR

AFRAKEN ACADEMIC SUB COMMITTEE (AASC) Under the leadership of Dr Sarah Cherono held its first webinar - Grant writing Essentials with Dr. K'Owino Isaac -PhD Analytical chemistry, Senior Lecturer in Masinde Muliro University presiding as the guest speaker on the 2nd April 2022. 

AFRAKEN seeks to disseminate its core mission and mandate as an organization to the general public while upskilling its members through grant writing. Subsequently the  AASC has rolled out its grant writing activities for the calendar year 2022 for its members.
