Reports from a busy week of action!
Its been another busy week for our juniors, who have been in action all over the North East. On Tuesday, Caitlin Creaby travelled down to Middlesbrough to race in the 200m in the NYSD league. She produced a great race, to win her heat comfortably.

Middlesbrough was the venue for the senior league on Saturday, with great conditions for the team as several of our older juniors, and seniors who have come through the junior ranks put in some fine performances. Alfie Ward took PB's in the long jump (6.85m) and high jump (1.80m), with Chloe Barrass taking the outright club record in the Javelin with 26.25m, along with strong runs in the 400m and 100m. Matthew Fairhurst launched the spear our to nearly 40m, and produced a great long jump. Josh Fiddaman scorched to a fantastic outright club record of 3:55 in the 1500m, a sensational performance, with Joe Wren recording a 17:21 5000m PB. It was great to see Alice Dungworth return to senior league action after 6 years, racing in the 200m.

At the Blyth links parkrun on Saturday Daniel Hall produced a great run, recording a time of 24:32. On Sunday, Frankie Foster took 4th place at the Whitley Bay Junior Parkrun, whilst Oliver Lamb recorded a time of 9:56 on his parkrun debut, just ahead of Liliana Meikle Lopez. Olivia Patrick recorded a time of 10:14.

Trafford Open
This afternoon a small team of juniors made the trip to Manchester for the Trafford Open. India Gorvett finished 1st girl in both her 75m and 150m races, also jumping a 2.90m PB in the long jump. Older sister Senna provided fantastic advice to India, although Senna's own events went less smoothly. A clash between the 200m and long jump meant Senna was unable to get the best out of either event, although she showed great promise on her javelin debut. Millie Wilkinson also had a challenging day in the 100m, however she showed great consitency in the long jump a leapt to an outdoor PB of 4.60m. Hollie-Anne Sudder was in fine form, picking up 3 PB's in the Javelin, High Jump and most impressively in the 200m with a time of 28.48s. In the 80m Hurdles, Luke Pichler lined up against Lewis Shaw from Warrington, with the boys topping the UK rankings both indoors and out. It was level pegging after 3 hurdles, before Luke clattered several hurdles ending his charge - but it was great experience. A solid high jump followed, and then a huge outdoor PB of 5.98m closed out his day. Sadie Parker jumped 5m outdoors for the first time, and produced a solid javelin, but her undoubted highlight was a 42.52 clocking in the 300m which is an U15 club record. Our team brought home countless medals, and showed great spirt and commitment - even when things didnt go to plan.

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
