Make Music is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Welcome Self-Care Summer!

 

As part of its second Self-Care Summer, Arts Ed Newark will be offering weekly giveaways for individuals and families who attend any free/low-cost events listed in the Self Care Summer Guide/Calendar. We will have wonderful weekly events, fun giveaways such as summer arts lessons and gift cards and more to promote arts as healing and joy for Newarkers.

Interested in offering PAID summer (and beyond) internships to Newark youth aged 18-24? Newark Summer Youth Employment Opportunity pays young people at no cost to your org, alongside Newark One Stop - at no cost to your organization, we can help create a pipeline for arts ed careers with local youth!

Your organization and/or company can participate in Newark SYEP by hiring youth directly to work for your company or by serving as a worksite.

For its 10th consecutive year partnering thanks to funding from Victoria Foundation, Arts Partners are sought to provide Arts Enrichment for Summer Plus students that are entering Grades 1-8 in September 2022. Enrichment takes place after lunch between 1:00- 3:00 PM and is designed in 45-50 minute increments with time for transition. Students attend enrichment activities in their grade band. Occasionally close grades are combined. Student groups do not exceed 30. Enrichment for students would be offered on all days of the summer program (July 5 - August 5, 2022) except for field trip days. When making arrangements with the school, it is important to note the Field Trip Schedule.

Schools offering Summer Plus include Abington Avenue, Dr. E.A. Flagg, Elliott Street, McKinley Park, Rafael Hernandez, Belmont-Runyon, GW Carver, Louise A. Spencer, Mt. Vernon, Speedway Avenue, 13th Avenue, Oliver Street. South Street, and Wilson Avenue schools.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
Applications now open! The Provident Bank Foundation provides a number of different grants your organization may be eligible for! PBF’s guidelines are an important part of the partnership they seek to achieve with applicants. They offer these guidelines as a way to help organizations find the right grant program for their request, and to offer insight into the application process. Learn more here!

Community Grants are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:59 PM. The first cycle of applications for Major Grants closes on June 17 at 11:59 PM. Signature Grant applications are due on May 13 at 11:59 PM. Check out their website for more information.

Boston-based Resist redistributes resources back to frontline communities at the forefront of change while amplifying their stories of building a better world.

Groups aligned with Resist will have their work located within an ecology of social justice organizations, are aware of how their work fits into a greater whole, and reflect a clear understanding of purpose and function within movements for social change. They have an intersectional/cross-issue analysis, work actively against white and Christian supremacy, capitalism, gender, and sexual oppression, and all forms of patriarchy, and are led by those most affected by structural oppression. 

Two types of grants will be awarded at this deadline:

General Support: Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to support groups building movements for justice and liberation and resisting systemic oppression through grassroots/cultural organizing, artmaking, and resilience building.

Accessibility: Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to fund the additional costs of making projects or events more accessible to community members with specific accessibility needs.
