Foster Spotlight: Blu
Are you looking for a four-legged friend who has endless love and snuggles to give? Well, then Blu is your guy! This six-year-old boy is eager to please, easy to train, walks beautifully on a leash, is potty and crate trained, and works on obedience like a show dog! Blu would do best in a home without young children, and he does startle easily. He came to BDR in rough shape but is well on his road to recovery. Blu is on anxiety medication. His foster mom is spending time working with him, and his progress is remarkable. Blu is a higher energy dog and even a little bit of a trickster! Initially, we thought Blu was wholly deaf; he is hard of hearing, has a ruptured eardrum but can hear some things (including commands). He does have anxiety which is being treated with trazodone. We saw a behaviorist for this, and it made a small impact. She thinks he may be recently blind and thus the anxiety.

Ready for Adoption: Nero
Nero was found as a stray at five/six weeks old and was brought to his local shelter.  The shelter initially thought he was blind, but it turns out that was not the case! Nero can see very well. Nero loves to explore, run and play with any toy he can get ahold of, or any of the other dogs. He is very food motivated and learns quickly. He enjoys wrestling with the other dogs and chewing on all toys or anything he can find. He is very cuddly when he is calm. He sleeps in his crate at night and is doing really well at potty training.

Rainbow Bridge
BDRA adopters and volunteers recently said goodbye to these beloved dogs.
Hannah was adopted in July 2013.  Her mom sent let us know a few weeks ago that “My beautiful Hannah passed away yesterday. As best as I calculate, she was 18 years old—amazing!” The photo of Hannah was accompanied by the message two years ago “She is a special animal and means the world to me.  This picture shows Hannah lying next to me for our afternoon siesta."
Nelson was adopted in 2019 and was loved by all.  His adoptive mom wrote soon after adoption “Nelson is doing great!! He has put on some weight and has learned how to get back to the porch after going outside. I did come to realize that house training is probably not going to be possible. He does not mind having the belly band on so we are just going to keep doing those. He is truly so sweet and everyone who meets him, loves him! Thanks for Nelson, he is a blessing to our family!” We received word recently that Nelson passed away as he had some medical issues, including seizures.
Mike was adopted 2015. His mom was great at reported Mike’s life with them.  Sadly, her last report was that of his death. But we start at the early reports.  “We are great! Mike is good. He is personality plus!  Quite sociable when anyone comes and loves to be around kids.  He will run around the yard chasing them  He has the run of the house and goes out the doggie door on his own. He knows where his food and water is and helps himself to it.

A cute thing he does is stand under the bird feeder and listen to the birds fly over top of him!  His head goes back and forth as they fly over his head. They don't mind him being there because they get pretty close to him!  Cheap entertainment!”
We had a sad message in April that Mike passed away “I'm sorry to have to tell you this but Mike is no longer with us. His tremors (seizures) were much more frequent as well as the grand mal ones. He was partially paralyzed on one side and had difficulty swallowing. He was becoming very disoriented and growling and snapping. Very confused! We miss him every day!!Not been a good couple months.  Thanks to you guys we had many good years with Mike and many fun memories.”
