Looking Forward...
Dear All,
It is good to have been with you in fellowship with the Lord. I have been blessed once again and enjoyed your company, friendship and getting to know you. Thank you for the privilege of being your Locum for the last 87days. It’s been delightful. Looking forward to my return from August to October.

I write this during Easter Week....
“They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where to find him” John 20:13

Resurrection is not as obvious as we might hope. It begins that first Easter day with an absence. The body of Jesus has gone, and His friend Mary is bewildered, needing to mourn, and weeping because even the certainty of death has proved unreliable. Jesus is not here.
After two years of the coronavirus pandemic, and with horrific war being waged in Ukraine, we long and pray for an end to suffering, for peace and security, for a reliable future. And we ask, where is Jesus in this? Where can we find Him?

Mary turned around by the tomb and saw Jesus standing there, but she didn’t recognise Him, she thought He was the gardener. Jesus wasn’t absent, He was there, waiting to be seen.
I picture Jesus waiting in the garden, waiting for Mary to come to the tomb, waiting for her to turn around and see Him through her tears, waiting for her to recognise Him and for the joy and happiness to come. It doesn’t happen of course until Jesus calls her name. Mary hears His voice and is brought face to face with reality – He is not dead, He is risen and standing here before her.

I wonder how often Jesus is waiting for us, though we do not see Him. How often He is standing, but we do not notice Him in our everyday busy lives. I wonder how often we may seek Him but we are looking the wrong way. We too need Him to call our name – which He does, loving and persistent, so we might turn and see Him with us all along.
I pray this for our world – that in the desolate places of human life and earth, the crucified and risen One may stand and bear witness, calling the names of the suffering and dying and gathering them in His arms of love. I pray that all of us, whatever our circumstances, will know the One who stands beside us, who calls our name and leads us into life.

With my Eastertide greeting in the Risen Christ,
Canon Michael Lloyd Rees
Thank you to Michael for all that he has shared with us and the Community during his time with us. We wish him safe travels back to Wales and look forward to seeing him again in August.
Easter at St Andrew's Chaplaincy
Queen's Jubilee celebrations
Our celebrations for the Queen's Jubilee will include a Touch of Class Concert on the Saturday at Los Boliches and a Praise Service at Alhaurin on the Sunday at 6.00pm with music from TIMS choir.

Full details to follow when available...
AGM 2022
The Chaplaincy AGM took place following a joint Communion Service at Los Boliches on Sunday 3rd April with 20 members in attendance.

Jen Sutton was re-elected as Churchwarden. Juliet Hird and Dianne Bloor were re-elected as Council members for a further three years. With all the relevant reports having been circulated in advance and accepted without questions, there was little to discuss and the meeting was 'short and sweet'. Caroline in her role as vice chair said that she hoped that it would be our new Chaplain who would be chairing next year's meeting.
Wednesday Coffee Mornings
On Wednesdays after the Eucharist service (10:30am) at Los Boliches, we hold a coffee morning. This starts at 11:15am and includes a cake stall, craft table with cards, books and jewellery.

It is an enjoyable hour and it would be good to see you there, and maybe you could contribute a cake, a carton of milk or even a couple of euros... anything gratefully received.

If you are not attending but would like to contribute items can be sent to Los Boliches with any of the Ministry team or Jen.

Come along...bring a friend..!!!!!    Sheila Allison.
TIMS’ tribute and fund raising evening to Ukraine
St Andrew’s Los Boliches was delighted to provide the venue for TIMS’ tribute and fund raising evening to Ukraine on Friday 22nd April.

The International Music Society really showed off its multi-cultural flavour as we heard songs from the Ukraine sung and performed by the members of the choir. It was emotional at times, not least when the audience was invited to stand while Victoria and Elena from the Ukraine sang the National Anthem, accompanied by the choir humming in the background. A wonderful evening and the concert raised €1010. This will be channelled through Lux Mundi to Caritas.
This photo shows the money being handed over to Gloria to pass on to Caritas for the Ukraine appeal.  From left to right: Gilly Barford (TIMS); Gloria Uribe (Lux Mundi) and Jen Sutton (St Andrew’s Chaplaincy).
Charitable Giving in St Andrew

At the start of 2021, the Council made a decision to choose a 'Charity of the Month': we actually decided to keep each charity for two months or more to enable everyone to have a chance to donate.

The first charity nominated was the local and international charity DEBRA  known in Spain as Piel de Mariposa (Butterfly Skin). This charity supports families all over the country whose children are born with such delicate skin that from the start of their lives, their skin is so fragile it bleeds at a touch. For them we raised €150.

Next we supported Christian Aid during Christian Aid Week, and decided to continue for a few more further weeks, and so raised €140

For June and August we chose a charity entitled 'Let the children Live', helping to feed children in the shanty towns of Colombia, South America. This comes under the umbrella charitable organisation known by many as TEAR FUND. During this period we raised €325.40.

In September and October, the rather descriptively named charity 'Bins & Toilets' was chosen  - this was to aid health and sanitary conditions in some of the worlds most deprived areas, for this we raised €174

For November and December 'Help for Heroes' was chosen, triggered by Remembrance Day in November. Raising €285.

The total given in 2021 thus reached €1074.

You will notice some Charities raised more than others, so at the beginning of 2022 the Council decided, if the Charity failed to raise €200 in the basket, we would supplement the amount from chaplaincy funds.

In 2022, we have already raised money for three charities. The first was ADIMI, a local charity that helps families whose children need special care. Secondly, we contributed to our Diocesan Bishops’ appeal to support the refugees escaping the atrocities of the war in Ukraine, and during Lent we have been raising money to help the Diocese of Perú, with which we are linked through the Archdeaconry. These totals we shall publish at a later date.

We believe we are blessed through giving as well as receiving; Matthew Chapter 6 and verses 3 & 4 say: “But when you give to the needy, do not let the left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Charity of the month for May and June 2022
With the ongoing war in the Ukraine we felt we should continue to offer help so this month we will be supporting 'The Maydan Málaga Association'.

The Maydan Málaga Association was established in 2014. It covers the entire Costa del Sol, where more than 11,000 Ukrainians reside. Since 2014, the association has been continuously organizing humanitarian aid to the eastern regions of Ukraine. Since the large-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, they have been actively participating in the collection and delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine on an ongoing basis
Congratulations
Congratulations go to members of the Inland Community this month, to Malcolm Roberts who celebrated his 87th birthday even though the sign on the table pointed out that he will forever be 21. Also congratulations to June and Ron Medley who celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.

In Memoriam

It is with sadness we announce the death of David Hulme on Saturday 24th April. We pray for Pauline and his sons, Michael and Robert in the United Kingdom. A Thanksgiving service was conducted by Canon John Sutton at Benalmádena’s Crematorium

On Friday 6th May the family gathered at St Andrew’s Los Boliches to give thanks for the lives of Lilian and Graham Hindle, both long term members of St Andrew’s. Lilian died tragically as a result of a traffic accident earlier this year, while Graham died on 7th April of declining health as a result of the same accident.

We pray they may all rest in peace.
