Coaches Corner
Youth Programs
The 2021/2022 season has come to a close, but we want to congratulate all our athletes, volunteers, parents and coaches on another successful season. We were so happy to get back to the race season after no raceing during the 2020-2021 season. This year the team travelled to Ottawa twice for an Ontario Cup and Eastern Canadian Championships, as well as, Lakefield College for an Ontario Cup and then Ontario Youth Championships in SMM and Nationals in Whistler, BC.

The Walden Nordic Ski team will be starting up with dry-land training in mid May for the 2022-2023 season. The team will train x 1/week at walden throughout the spring and summer, in addition to monthly roller skiing technique sessions and testing camps. If you are interested in inquiring about joining the Walden Nordic Race team please email Coach Marlee at: coach@waldenxc.ca

This past season we had many athletes named to the Ontario Ski Team, Ontario Junior Ski Team and Ontario Development Team:

Kendyn Mashinter (Ontario Ski Team and National Team Development Centre)
Max Mahaffy (Ontario Ski Team and National Team Development Centre)
Patrick Wiss (Ontario Junior Ski Team)
Maddie Tremblay ( Ontario Development team)
Lauren Pineau (Ontario Development Team)
Kaeden Ward (Ontario Development Team)
Russell Joiner ( Ontario Development Team)

The Walden Nordic Race Team would like to thank Rob Wiss and Ian Nener for their countless hours of hard work in the wax room, to ensure everyone had speedy skis. We should like to also thank Coach Sara and Coach Konrad for all of their hard work. We would like to thank Walden Cross Country for their generous donation to help a small group of athletes attend Nationals this year in Whistler. We would like to thank Walden Cross Country for awarding Kendyn Mashinter and Max Mahaffy Elite athlete grants to help offset costs for all of their travel and racing this past season.

We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Walden Race Team Coach Bryan Dubeau on his new position as Cross Country Ontario’s New Technical director. We are thrilled for for Bryan and couldn’t be happier for him as he takes on this new opportunity! Bryan has been coaching the Walden Nordic Ski Team since 2018 and has been an integral part of rebuilding the race team and its strong performances and successes on the race scene over the past several years!
