Section Night: Climate change nuts and bolts: some thoughts from a geologist

The talk will be a geological perspective of climate change: how we know the climate has changed frequently in the past, how those changes can help us test predictions, and how predictions are made. There'll be a minimum of technical stuff. The talk can't cover all aspects of climate change, but it will comment on why there are some uncertainties and why that's OK. It won't preach doom and gloom or how to be virtuous. There will be some ideas on likely effects of relevance to climbers.

Bio: Brad got an MSc in geology with a thesis on the Liebig Range in Mt Cook in 1977, and was a geologist in DSIR and GNS Science for over 40 years, doing fieldwork with applications for fossil fuels, carbon dioxide disposal, and past climate change in New Zealand and Antarctica. He has been monitoring climate change research for about 20 years and has been adapting to retirement for the last three years.

Come join us on Thursday 5 May at the Tararua Tramping Club (4 Moncrieff St) for this talk! Arrive from 5:30pm for a 6pm start. There'll be pizza and we'll head to the Hop Garden pub after to continue the yarns.
