FLF News
Yolande Wilburn, new Director of Santa Cruz Public Libraries, spoke at a community gathering hosted by FLF in lieu of the regular meeting on April 27, attended by more than 40 people. During introductions, Yolande appreciated hearing about all the SLV community connections people have, and spoke about the value of community partnerships. After questions and answers, all gathered on the patio for refreshments and conversation. Here's the link for Yolande's talk.
The next FLF meeting is May 24 at 4:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Come join us to hear about ongoing projects in the library and park, and bring your ideas!
The FLF Art Curation Team has filled the display case with gorgeous works of glass by Boulder Creek artists Scott Graham and Cristy Aloysi, a husband and wife team. Their sculptural work is both inspired and complemented by natural shapes and plant forms.

What’s in a Name?
The 3-D map of our San Lorenzo Valley watershed sponsored by Felton Library Friends has proved to be an intriguing, inspiring, and informative feature of the Discovery Park. FLF President Nancy Gerdt remarked, “There’s no better way to introduce the concept of a watershed than this model. Kids instantly want to find their home and trace how the streams flow to the San Lorenzo River and on to the ocean. It’s been a real hit with adults too.”
Discovery Park News
Garden Work Party Saturday, May 7, 9–11 a.m. Come help keep the native plants in the Discovery Park flourishing this spring!
Bramble On! On April 9, over 30 volunteers showed up to remove invasive plants along Bull Creek. Jay Ryan, Corpsmember in the CA Conservation Corps Watershed Stewards, led the group on a tour and demonstrated removal techniques. Himalayan blackberries, ivy, and Scotch broom were the primary targets. County Parks provided tools. It was inspiring to have this diverse group of volunteers show up. Thanks to all!
