SMART'S 2022 Candidate Forum is Coming Up!

1. On May 17th, SMART will host a Candidate Forum prior to the June primary election. We look forward to candidates for Sacramento County Supervisor District 5 sharing their transportation priorities and what role public transportation should play in Sacramento County. This will be a virtual event that will be hosted on Zoom. Don't forget to mark your calendars!  More info and how to access the Zoom event is at www.sactosmart.org/events.

2. In case you missed it, our last general meeting had informative updates and news about rail projects in our area. We don't want you to miss out on this information so here is the presentation about Capitol Corridor's Systemwide Capital Program. Additionally, here is the presentation about Valley Rail progress in bringing new intercity rail service to Sacramento and the region.

3.  Would you like a presentation to your organization, city council member, or county supervisor about how mass transit systems can address serious transportation access and affordability, health and safety, connectivity, and climate change issues that challenge Sacramento region businesses and residents? May is Bike Month! | Attend SacRT's Fiscal Year 2023 Preliminary Operating and Capital Budget

1. May is Bike Month! Leave your cars at home and enjoy a nice bike ride with this amazing weather. Make this a fun habit by logging your trips and collecting prizes on lovetoride.net. Keep in mind that SacRT buses have bike racks so you can travel anywhere! Bikes can also be taken on light rail and there are bike locker rentals at 23 stations.

2. SacRT's Fiscal Year 2023 Preliminary Operating and Capital Budget will be hosted on Zoom and YouTube for a public hearing. This virtual event will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 during their SacRT Board of Directors Meeting. Please join if you are interested in sharing your economic, environmental, and social viewpoint regarding SacRT projects. Click here for more information.

3. Sacramento Neighborhoods Activating of Air Quality (SNAAQ) is taking charge in achieving cleaner and healthier air for the community. The community will have the opportunity to attend workshops, access education, coalition building, and outreaching siting for air monitoring. This will encourage residents to be proactive about the importance and impact of air quality in the area. Click this link to read more about the new action plans.

4. According to Next City, transit organizations in Sacramento are coming together. SacRT has had hardships with budgeting and the pandemic has definitely set it back. It's important to keep SacRT around, especially for the sake of Sacramento's air quality. Check out this article to learn more about SacRT's history and how bringing the cities of Elk Grove and Folsom back into the district fold has been a plus for all.

5. Transportation and the environment. SACOG is giving the community an opportunity to be involved with transportation's contribution to the environment. There is a project list that you can now review and nominate to help develop the project details for their plan in 2050. Read this link to read more on how you can review these projects.
