Dying and Re-creation of World

An excerpt from President Forrest E. Harris Sr.'s April 17 Resurrection Message

As a Christian liberal arts college, American Baptist College celebrates with Christians worldwide the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ...

American Baptist College stands in a Christian faith tradition that affirms the re-creation, potential hope of new life, a new world of love and justice. We promote education and Christian service after the example and model of Jesus’ love ethic of love “to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God.” We live with resurrection faith, the possibilities of life beyond the cruelty, contradictions, and personal and corporate sins. Through education, biblical and theological understanding of justice, and leadership, we believe by the power of God the transformation of life is possible. To open up students to the spirituality of Jesus’ idea of a new life against all forms of oppression in personal and institutional life that stand against the coming of God’s kingdom is our mission.

Don't Forget to VOTE

Voter education, registration, and implementation are extremely important to all citizens. It is our right. The passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is further testament that we must vote. ABC alumni such as Congressman John Lewis, Rev. C. T. Vivian, Rev. Bernard Lafayette, Rev. James Bevel, and others fought to the greatest degree for Blacks to have the right to vote. The municipal elections in Davidson County are currently under way. Early voting continues through April 28 and Election Day is May 3.

Remember, they did it for us, let's vote! To find out voting precincts, times, and candidates, go to the Davidson County Election Commission site at www.nashville.gov.

Harmonie Hall
 CMA Performance with The Judds

American Baptist College student Harmonie Hall was a star at the 2022 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, broadcast live from Nashville on Monday, April 11, on the CBS network.  Harmonie was a backup singer with the celebrated Judds, which was the highly anticipated performance of the evening. The legendary mother-daughter duo Naomi and Wynonna Judd sang together for their first televised performance in more than 20 years.

A stellar and highly sought-after performer, Harmonie was a must-have for the Judd's return CMA appearance. "It was a great experience," said Harmonie. Watch performance.

An Enrollment Call-A-Thon

'Checking In to Prevent Checking Out' was the focus of the American Baptist College Call-A-Thon, to reach out to students. The Enrollment Management event was deemed a success by Executive Director Dee Thomas. "We reached out to nearly 300 students in the four-hour session and were inspired by our contacts." Eight faculty, staff, and one student intern participated in the session.

In addition to the personal touch, scheduled follow ups were made to do additional contacts with the students. "From this event, we had some completed applications, and that was joyful to the team," said Thomas.

The Enrollment Management team will be doing more of these types of activities, including projects with alumni and other infinity groups, regarding American Baptist College.

Please plan to attend a Special Alumni Gathering to discuss recruitment efforts at the College. The meeting will take place by Zoom on Monday, May 9, at 4 p.m. CT. More information to come.

Plan For Our 2022 Graduation Activities

The special public events will be May 18-19, featuring a return of the Baccalaureate Service, as well as the Commencement Ceremony.

Both events will be held at the historic Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville. Rev. Aaron Marble, pastor Jefferson Street Baptist Church will deliver the Baccalaureate message at 6 p.m. CT. on May 18.

The Commencement Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. CT on May 19, at Jefferson Street. Dr. Christopher Davis, president of the Tennessee Baptist & Education Convention, pastor, St. Paul Baptist Church, both in Memphis, associate dean of Memphis Theological Seminar and Board Chair of Lemoyne Owen College, will deliver the address.

Both programs will be hybrid.

Introducing ABC's New Communication & Branding Guidelines

We are pleased to introduce the communication and branding guidelines, produced by the Division of Institutional Advancement. The style guide gives us more than branding structure; it helps in marketing the College, so that the fonts, colors, and style will speak volumes of who we are in all that we do.

We hope you will find this document helpful, and we look forward to sharing more images, more videos, and more information about our historic College nestled on the "Holy" Hill in North Nashville.
