Facilitated by TSP alum Julie M. Meyer, the following 5 OER adaptation projects from the February 2022 Adapt Cohort  are in the works:
  1. Introduction to Physical Science is a comprehensive, culturally relevant, and accessible OER designed for Elementary Education majors. Santosha Adhibhatta and the Introduction to Physical Science team hope to diversify course materials to represent their students and take into account current world problems to bridge the gap between science and society.
  2. Children, Families, Schools, and Communities is an introductory text for the field of Child and Family Studies that seeks readers to understand how children, families, schools, and communities collaborate with and influence one another. Joan Giovannini, Jess Egan, and team note that this OER offers “strengths-based approaches to creating culturally sustaining collaborations that honor the linguistic and cultural diversity of families and communities.”
  3. A comprehensive guide to college for students, First Year Experience hopes to support students navigate college. Kyle Kraus, Judy Zaiken, Marisha Marks, and team’s student-focused adapted resource will introduce readers to college terminology, student affairs, and common campus services, while creating a template for other colleges to customize to their campuses.
  4. General Psychology: Engagement & Representation is a resource aimed at supporting the teaching and learning experiences of General Psychology. Deborah McMakin, Nicole Rossi, and team hope to provide relevant examples for students, in addition to ancillary resources for faculty to promote critical thinking, engaging pedagogy, and student voices.
  5. Noticing that traditional intro to Philosophy texts were typically framed through a white, male lens, Sondra Peron and team are creating something very different with their Introduction to Philosophy resource. Focused on connecting to students and their lives, this OER will introduce students to philosophy to better understand issues, morals, and values.

#OEROfficeHours Updates

What happens when my author leaves? Policies to support OER

When: May 12, 2022 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET
Guests: To Be Announced

We focus a lot of our energy on launching grant programs and supporting authors through the writing process, with the promise of a completed OER moving us forward. But what happens after the OER is “out there” for a while? Or when an author leaves an institution? Inspired by recent listserv conversations, at this Office Hours session we’ll talk about long-term maintenance and sustainability of open publishing programs. How do you make decisions and set policies around data and book retention? Do authors have perpetual access to your publishing platform? Who manages updates at programs that support OER at multiple institutions? Or are updates and new editions even a part of your program? Join us as our guests discuss these questions and more. As always, you’re invited to bring your own stories and policies.
